Meet Derrick Stephon Miller aka G. Garçon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derrick Stephon Miller aka G. Garçon.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m an accomplished actor and musician but the road getting here was anything but easy or boring. Growing up house to house I had the great opportunity to not only learn a lot from those around me but learn a lot about myself as well. Songwriting and performing is almost second nature for me but acting is a talent that I’ve had to study and constantly groom over time.

Yes, I am a college graduate, business owner, and have traveled every continent but 1 and still I find myself wanting more. The hardest part of wanting more is not knowing exactly what more it is that I want. I’ve learned to enjoy my own company and grew an irreplaceable belief in myself and the talent that I possessed.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road getting here has been anything but smooth I’ve enjoyed every bump along the way. Self-belief has been the target obstacle for me. Musically my sound is very original and stands on its own pillar. Therefore the belief of not being commercially successful has always been a small voice in my subconscious. Having success with my songs being placed on television shows and film has quieted that doubtful voice and has allowed me to not only provide the world with great music but has allowed me to have much more fun doing so. Theatrically on the other hand has been a roller coaster filled with triumph and disappointment which is one of the reasons I’ve enjoyed it so much. When things come easy we usually do not appreciate it very much. Booking roles on television and film is anything but easy so being to book a role is a feeling I cannot explain.

My final obstacle that I constantly face is self-promoting. I’ve been known to talk about everything under the sun besides myself and self-promoting is key in any business. Although I understand the concept I refuse to enter a conversation to solely speak about myself. I will always remain compassionate and genuinely intrigued with everyone I meet and converse with.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a vivid lyrical story tell who is currently study the art of character development. To be able to write lyrics and express and emotion or tell a story is something that has opened many of doors for me over the years and is something I deeply love. Learning to develop a character and portray that character on screen is an art that I’m constantly studying and may never truly master but the process has been irreplaceable thus far.

My hard work and dedication is the major formula that sets me apart from others.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I love the city of Los Angeles in general. I love the ambition, the art and food. My favorite blvd is Sunset blvd and my favorite beach is Venice beach. I truly dislike the traffic in LA of course but even more than that I dislike the dreamers who posses poor work ethics. Seemingly everyone flocks to LA with dreams of being a star but some do not the work hard, I’d prefer if those types of unmotivated people stayed in the hometowns.
