Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Mezhynskaya.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kristina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Ukraine. However, I’ve lived in Italy, Kazakhstan and the US for the most part of my adult years. Since I was a child, I admired the arts and always pushed toward singing, dancing and modeling. I’ve cherished my moments in the spotlight from a young age –– at the age of eight, I used to arrange “paid” concerts for friends, at which I performed both songs of my own composition and hits of that period. Yet, as I grew up in a traditional family, I was directed to receiving a traditional education to fall back on and I did so by getting an engineering degree.
After my studies, I knew that I wanted self-fulfillment that I could only obtain through my expression in the arts. So I began my career as a singer in a Kazakh music group. After a successful year in the group, I decided to go solo. In 2011, I met with a famous Ukrainian director Alan Badoev on the set of the reality show “10 Wishes,” where Badoev was a producer and host. Towards the end of the same year, the renowned director decided to take me under his label and produced my musical career. Since then, I have had a successful singing, modeling and tv personality career in Ukraine and constantly travel back and forth for work.
Yet, as any other person who moves to the US. I have my own American dream. I would like to further develop in Los Angeles in terms of acting and modeling. I want to return to acting school, as an actor must be constantly in working mental shape. I want to work on myself in the sense of betterment. As I now understand that beauty comes from within, I have passionately been exploring the world of yoga and meditation.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think anything in life is a smooth road. I have always been different from my friends or people I’ve surrounded myself with. I’ve always been quite tall, skinny, with big facial features. I know it’s not something that people tend to complain about but people’s comments on my appearance did create a few insecurities within me. Sometimes, I was misunderstood for my open-minded thinking in a very closed-minded country. As I grew up, I understood that my individuality was beautiful. Now, I work towards empowering other young girls coming into the industry with my advice and I propel the message of body positivity on my social media. If I were to give advice to other young women just starting out, I would tell them that it’s ok not to be perfect. None of us are. And that at the end of the day, you can’t please everyone in the room. You can’t book every single show and that’s ok. The right people will appreciate your look and you will go far if you just believe in yourself and your own capabilities.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an entrepreneur at heart that has passion for the Arts! I have been a TV host, a Singer, on multiple TV reality shows, actress, model and managed my own business ventures.
I am a Global citizen that has lived all over the world. I am most proud of my ability to adapt to different cultures, businesses, surroundings and I always stay positive and I Believe in my ability to be successful and to create success and I am willing to do what it takes to achieve my goals.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
I have always loved Audrey Hepburn, she and what she stood for inspire me. She was much more than just a beautiful face, she was an extremely talented actress, amazing soul, beautiful person inside and out, and a wise women. She was selfless and compassionate for helping so many people and inspiring them. She carried herself with grace, confidence, and poise.
Audrey was someone we should all look to for inspiration. Whether it be inspiration for an outfit, our makeup, or most importantly, the way we carry ourselves or the way we treat others. There are so many things that we can learn from Audrey’s legacy. Audrey has taught us that we should respect ourselves, respect others, and always know how lucky we are. She showed us that we should always strive to be better people and to make the world a better place. Her charity work lives on today, as does her spirit.
