Meet Christy Barre of The Travel Business Babe Community in Southern San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Barre.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Christy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My passions resurfaced when I had a corporate career. I tried out a bunch of different jobs and nothing felt quite right. I would sit at my desk job daydreaming of ways I could be my own boss, but I didn’t know how.

Then one summer during graduate school, I went on a trip to Montana with two of my girlfriends and I was taking so many pictures and then posting them to Instagram. I had always loved photography but didn’t have a medium to share my photos with the world.

The more I posted, the more I was reaching new people through Instagram, my following and engagement started increasing and a fire was lit within me. This was so fun for me, sharing my photographs and having others see them and love them.

So after the Montana trip, I started a blog and that’s when I realized blogging can produce an income! This was one of the most exciting moments because I finally found something I enjoyed doing and I could monetize.

Fast forward four years and I have figured out how to monetize my blog through Instagram and I now teach others how to do the same.

I have been able to travel to dream destinations, work with dream hotels and resorts as well as create content for brands that I am wildly obsessed with.

It’s a life that I didn’t even know was possible until Instagram came along.

Instagram gave me freedom and now I help others live a freedom based lifestyle with Instagram as well.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh not at all.

There have been many obstacles along the way. One of them being the debate of leaving my full time, salaried job as a first grade teacher. I know a lot of people tend to struggle with this and while there are many different circumstances and people can be in different positions, I knew I had no choice.

Freedom is one of my main values so if I didn’t create my own freedom, I would have regretted that for the rest of my life.

I always say, “you have to want something more than you fear it to actually see change and commit”.

Another struggle was increasing my income. I mean there was literally a month a few years ago where I didn’t have all my money together and struggled to pay rent.

It is one thing to earn money here and there through Instagram but it another to fully understand how to package your blog and Instagram to earn an income and scale that income.

The Travel Business Babe Community – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My business has evolved over time. What started off as a content creation business for brands has evolved into a community for Bloggers, Influencers and Entrepreneurs to learn how to build a business with Instagram. I have developed a specific method called The Influencer Method™️, which is a six step strategy taking you from ‘Idea phase’ to ‘launch phase’ within your Influencer business.

I am most proud of the community that The Travel Business Babe Community has created. We have women meeting up all around the world, I have women reaching out and telling me that they have left their 9-5 jobs, started a business, launched a podcast and so much more. Next step is going to be hosting events- which I’m super excited about.

I believe that what sets The Travel Business Babes apart from other “social media gurus” or companies is that we believe in more than just business. I believe that if you want to better your business, you also need to work on yourself and your life as an individual. I don’t believe there is one business model that works for everyone. I help influencers build a business that suits them as a person and the lifestyle they want to create.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
This is such a great question because I think about this constantly. I believe that success can’t be achieved if we don’t create our own definition.

So I would define success by balancing my life and creating my life by design. Asking myself, “am I living my ideal life?” if not, what can change?

I have this activity where I chart the areas of my life as a whole. Business, friends, family, relationship, travel, fitness, health… you really can put whatever values you have in this chart (ex: books, personal development, meditation, yoga, the list goes on…)

And I assign a number 1-10 for all of these areas based on how I am feeling. If a number falls shorter than I would like, I ask myself why? And how can I change this.

Success happens when we actively evaluate our lives and stay conscious of our decisions.

So as long as I am constantly asking myself, “is this supporting my best life?”, “am I living my ideal life?”, and if the answer is yes I will feel successful. If the answer is no, don’t stress, just take the proper actions necessary.
