Today we’d like to introduce you to Enesse.
Enesse, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I left Brussels, Belgium to come to the states ten years ago. My first stop was a language school in Miami, where I studied for two years. Shortly after, I was signed to music producers The Justice League and they moved me to Atlanta where I stayed and worked with them for about 3-4 years. They gave me my first writing credit on Rick Ross’ mastermind album, which was a pretty big accomplishment for me at that time. We would come to LA here and there for studio sessions, and I remember falling in love with the city the first time I came here; I knew this would be a city I would want to come to more often and eventually live in, and that’s exactly what happened. Once my contract was up, I moved to LA and I’ve been here ever since. Music slowed down for me when I first got here so I started modeling to be able to pay rent and survive. I was living with one of my best friend and another guy in a studio in Koreatown.
With the money from modeling I got into the Airbnb and car business, which I juggled for some time while I continued to write music. Money was better but I was still not doing what I actually wanted to do. I knew I had to put all my focus back on music for something to happen, so a couple of years down the line I was lucky enough to find people who believed in me and gave me a chance to focus 100% on music again. I dropped three songs in English which garnered over 1 million streams as well as a pretty good social media presence. I’m now working on a French project, which is my native language. I felt the itch to get back to my roots and make music that can touch people from where I’m from and inspire them to dream bigger.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but like they say: Anything worth having doesn’t come easy. One of the biggest struggles, I have to admit, was keeping my artist visa in the US. On that note, coming to the states from Europe by myself was a huge struggle just adapting to life here without my family. Artistically speaking, one of the challenges in trying to jumpstart a music career here in the US was just how saturated the market is, which is one of the reasons I strategically decided to go in a different direction where I can use the experience I gained in the American music scene to create French music.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m an artist/songwriter, and what I think I’m known for are memorable melodies– I could write melodies all day, it comes naturally to me. I’m most proud of the fact that I was able to make a name for myself in the American market and use that experience in what I’m doing now in the European market.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Even though I’ve had bigger achievements before this, I have to say the release of my single, Chez Moi, has been my proudest moment so far. It was a very honest and personal song that a lot of people connected with. It just felt different…
