Meet Lorenzo Meynardi of Stif Lo MCD in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorenzo Meynardi.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lorenzo. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was six, my father Federico Meynardi and my mother Maddalena Catalano introduced me to the Flute at nine the Drums and at 12 to the Saxophone world, even if my main instrument has always been the drums.

Everything I’ve been doing in my music life is thanks to my parents supporting me and my brother Alessandro Meynardi in art AMDandy that has always been playing in from of my drum set with his Guitar. Me and Alessandro began our career with a Japan tour around our 16th and consecutively Europe and US. Because of the terrible musical situation in Italy, we spent our life practicing me Drums and Dandy Guitar planning to live in the US in the future. This future was three years ago when Dandy went to Berklee College of Music in Boston and I went to Musician Institute in Hollywood.

During these three years, I’ve been playing for, taking lessons from and featuring people as Kenny Aronoff, Thomas Lang, Alex Acuña, Eric Moore and many others and my current projects are SVI, Fire Tiger and Thunderpets with Ricky Bonazza and AMDandy, my brother, who in the meantime became an Award-Winning Guitar Player.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been hard since the first day, after spending a lifetime growing in Villanova Mondovì I had to step in a city as Hollywood, alone, a month before beginning Musician Institute. Everything changed when Ricky Bonazza called me to play in a European Tour covering 6 Countries and 16 Towns. After that, I joined the Fire Tiger and with them, I lived the Sunset Strip Life as a respectable headliner and Canada.

Rodolfo Gonzalez called me to Play an amazing concert in Guadalajara Mexico with Ricky Bonazza, Maria di Cara and the Guadalajara Young Orchestra. So, answering the question, it’s never easy, never, too much competition and too many people trying, but the only thing for sure is that once you decided to take this road, keep it straight if you have enough capacity and a brain. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for my parents Federico and Maddalena, my brother Alessandro and my girlfriend Claudia Andrea.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I’m a drummer, I got a Master Degree in flute and a Certificate in Saxophone but I consider myself a drummer, I may say I’m a funky drummer going smoother or heavier depending on the Music I’m playing. What I’m most proud of is the recording I’ve been doing for the AM Dandy album. Personally, people come to me asking about the Double Pedal and the Independence Drum Techniques.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I’ve many meanings for Success, for somebody is surviving doing what you love, for others is making millions, not always doing what you love. For me, success is being recognized for what you are and what you do, respect for the innovation you brought in the world, been necessary to the humanity for some reason. For me, success means being useful for the world.
