Meet Jody Wright of The Chandelier Shiner in Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jody Wright.

Jody, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started The Chandelier Shiner 17 years ago back in 2000. I had just moved here from South Florida, leaving my private yacht crew career as a chef-mate-stewardess behind. Seeking a change, I took a position in Brentwood as a house manager in a privately owned 22,000 square foot estate. The newly built house was in its completion stages. Interior Designers were putting in the finishing touches and it was there that I met an electrician, Bill Bramlett (who would later become my chandelier mentor). He was installing many chandeliers into this enormous house.

One particular day I had mentioned to Bill, how I used to clean a chandelier on a yacht named ‘Magic’ I previously work on before I had moved out to LA… He told me there was a need for someone to clean the chandeliers he was installing. I took that sentence to heart and the rest is history. Not long after that conversation, I began to build my business, which I called “The Chandelier Shiner”. I put my little ‘sign’ out and prepared myself to become wealthy cleaning the light fixtures of the mega rich.

Needless to say, it was a long, slow journey building my business to what it is today. Lots of trial and error. For several years, I worked part time as an administrative assistant to a leather importer in Culver City to help supplement my income.

At first I did all the chandelier cleanings myself, but before long, I needed help and I hired my first part time employee, Super Tall Paul who was 6’6″ and barely even needed a ladder! Over the years, I have hired many employees who typically stay for a lengthy period, or at least until their careers launch. My crew typically consists of dancers, musicians, cirque performers, dog groomers. It’s a melting pot of creative people, who make a loyal, prideful fleet. I left my part-time job back in 2005 and have never looked back. Cleaning chandeliers can be a stressful job, as we are working on VERY expensive crystal chandeliers, in some of the wealthiest real estate in the world, precariously perched up high on a ladder, with deadlines to meet. I’ve earned these grey hairs that’s for sure!

Has it been a smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges I deal with, is the fragility of these ancient old fixtures we work with. If something breaks on a chandelier, due to it being so antique. For instance, a fixture we are sparkling made in the mid 1800’s era and of Italian descent…. there’s just not a store I can run to and buy a replacement part.

The best defense I have for this potential problem is EXTREME precaution. Careful, precise movements perched way up high on a ladder, executed by a highly-trained employee is what helps us avoid any issues. Dealing with each priceless chandelier as if it were our own fragile, delicate baby. Each unique in its own way. Caressing and polishing each blingy bauble with the utmost care. In 17 years, we have had very few mishaps. It’s a risky operation to tackle, but the transformations we make to these antique chandeliers is always remarkable. We get a lot of ooooohs and ahhhhhs!! We bring the diamond in the room back to its sparkling, shimmering best.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Chandelier Shiner – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in the meticulous art of cleaning even the most fragile, ornate or difficult to reach chandeliers since 2000.

Servicing chandeliers primarily in the Los Angeles area.

“Add a little sparkle to your lite”

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I never get tired of admiring the craftsmanship put in these gorgeous, old, noble chandeliers…. The variety is endless! The best chandeliers are imported from all over the world! Italian, French, Russian, Irish chandeliers. Baccarat, Murano, Venetian glass, Brass, Spanish Wrought Iron, Waterford crystal, Porcelain, the list is endless…… I never grow tired of what kind of chandelier we will meet on the next job.

I also must admit, I LOVE being in some of the most beautiful homes this country has to offer. Beverly Hills, Belair, Brentwood, Hollywood, just to name a few. Celebrities, Politicians, Doctors, Lawyers! We service so many different clients in this crazy town! The amazing architecture, massive estates, the wide variety of impeccable interior design and gorgeous landscaping never gets old! You can’t help but appreciate the grand, decadent beauty of it all!

Most all clients turn into repeat clients, getting their chandeliers sparkled once a year or every six months. Depending on how sparkly they like their fixtures to look.

Dislikes? I don’t have many…. perhaps the occasional undesirable rude client, or a chandelier that is just too old and crumbly to clean safely. Mostly, it’s all good!
