Meet Brandyn Burnette

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandyn Burnette.

Brandyn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. Taught myself how to play piano at seven years old & guitar at 13 years old. Started writing my own songs throughout high school. Then went to NYU on a full-ride scholarship to Tisch School of the Arts. Signed to Sony ATV Music Publishing at 19 years old then Warner Bro’s Records at 21. After four years at WMG started releasing my music independently. I’ve written songs for Backstreet Boys, Hedley, Jesse McCartney, Elephante & K Pop supergroup EXO.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being an artist & finding a way to make a living was definitely a struggle at first. The music industry is unlike most professions because the pay can sometimes be unpredictable. Some songs take a few years before you even see any money. That’s probably my least favorite part about music is stressing or worrying about money. I had to remind myself that the art comes first. Also, finding a way to stay motivated & inspired on the daily was a challenge.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I started my own company through my own independent label. I write & produce songs for other artists as well. I write all of my music as if I’m going to be the artist releasing it which makes the songs more authentic & emotional regardless of who records it. I’m most proud of helping other artists achieve a vision & sound they are excited about.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like LA is the place to be when it comes to music. It’s a very tough industry to break out in because LA can be very competitive. Most artists & peers in music often have side jobs or side hustles just to stay afloat. If you want to succeed in any business, there’s a certain level of risk versus opportunity that is a fine line to walk. But if you can find something proprietary about what you do then your business will grow as long as you invest in yourself.
