Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail Collins.
Abigail, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been visually documenting the world around me since I was a little girl. I was always observing and taking mental pictures of life unfolding long before I ever had a camera. This natural interest led me to my first photography class in high school. Being able to capture a moment, holding that experience in an image was incredible, and I was hooked.
After graduating college with my BA, I lost my way, both in relationships and in corporate jobs, for ten years. I still worked as a photographer on the side, but had too many doubts about who I was as a person and my talent as an artist, to wander too far from what was safe and easy.
The difference between then and now is I love who I am and I seek to live life fully. The realization that an inspiring yet uncertain life is more noble than an unfulfilling but guaranteed existence, drives me in this journey every day. After this epiphany, I met my husband, quit my job as an executive assistant and opened my own photography business in 2015. Most recently we welcomed our beautiful son to the adventure.
Some of the greatest moments of my life happened when I followed my heart and pursued my dreams. Life is never perfect; I’m still learning and navigating the photography industry, but I still get to capture other people’s life, love and dreams for a living, and this makes me incredibly happy and grateful.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first opened my photography business in 2015 I had no idea what to expect, but I honestly thought that having a website, and a Facebook and Instagram page would be enough for clients to just start flowing in. In reality, marketing has been one my biggest challenges.
I’m still learning ways to really connect with potential clients, as well as have an authentic online presence. Being as real and honest as I can be is important to me, and finding people who identify with and are drawn to what I’m putting out in the world is a top priority. The images born from those kinds of collaborations are that much more powerful and meaningful.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Abigail R Collins Photography – what should we know?
I’m a Los Angeles photographer, specializing in weddings, portraits and boudoir. I capture real moments and emotion in my clients. I invite an open experience, one where you can share your honest self and be completely present. I photograph you with sincerity and appreciation, and I create a space where you feel comfortable connecting in front of my lens. The resulting images are always beautiful and speak from the soul.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Commitment. I’m the most committed person I know. I want every single client to come away from our time together feeling incredibly good, and having the most amazing images. I’m committed to this happening every single time, and I will work hard for this experience to only get better.
