Meet Keanna Dunn of Not of This Generation in Greater Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keanna Dunn.

Keanna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started N.O.T.G because I saw that everyone was adopting the same ritual, routines and norm of today. Which is grab your phone, be in your phone on social media, make sure you record everything you’re doing and prove to everyone else that you are doing it. I noticed that when I was the outsider at the party not recording or on my phone, I was alone. I want to remind people to be not so caught up in the generation’s norms that we forget we are actually living and to bring back REAL human interaction. Enjoy a vacation or special event without letting people through your phone know you are there or doing it.

I want to bring back the times in life when “Instagram” was not so important to people when we would just see it as an app. There are a lot of people now who say they are “different”, and I have people that love my brand because they say, “man, this describes me, I am not like everyone else”. That is what I want more of. The goal is for it to be sold in well-known brand stores such as Zumiez & Pac-Sun, where big influencers and big names have it as their go-to comfy day t-shirt and big long sleeve tee to make the brand’s purpose well-known. Today, my brand has sold 100 pieces of merch in counting, and we have a list of pre-orders awaiting compilation at the beginning of the new year!! I want LA to be proud of my brand, as this is where I come from, and my hopes are that younger people see my brand as something bigger than a t-shirt, it is a movement!!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. And I will tell anyone trying to start something independently from the ground up that it is not. The struggles were people not seeing my brand go somewhere far and me believing that it can. Once I got inspiration that I have this idea, I believe in it, and I put it on pieces of clothing, all I have to do is keep going. Procrastination has been a struggle for me, which I can honestly say I need to work on. Also, the struggle of teaching myself technical skills, like building my own website, marketing the brand myself, and finding ways technically to appeal to consumers and the social world.

Also, a struggle I am seeing is how can I appeal and market in such a social world without going against the stance of what my brand stands for?

Please tell us about Not of This Generation.
My brand is a clothing company with a purpose and message. We specialize in custom fanny packs, and we sell comfort wear, such as baggy clothing, big/oversized styles that include jogger suits inspired by old school looks.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Starting over, I would have studied the business more and actually saw the greatest that have done what I am trying to do in the “t-shirt”, graphic tees with a message business have done to be where they are, first. I kind of just jumped into making a logo, making a brand and selling stuff.
