Today we’d like to introduce you to Aye Mitch!.
Mitch, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started making music in high school with my cousin Kellz, then that grew to making music with a few friends of mine. I was in a group for a few years with KO and D and that really started to shape the type of artist i became. After a few years of college for Digital Media Arts for engineering and recording, networking and growing my craft, that led me to song-write for artists, collaborate even more with friends that became close fam like Zeroh, Ahwlee, Spex, Low Leaf, Coreyy G and Danny Watts just to name a few, and creative direct/produce for projects of mine as well as others. To be honest it got me reconnected with a side of my family that has been in the music industry like my cousin Yung Billy for some time now unbeknownst to me. That gave me confirmation that I was where I was supposed to be. We have been working ever since.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I feel if the road is smooth then it’s not really a journey. I’ve been robbed at gunpoint, borderline homeless, had to break ties with people, suffered losses to and disappointing failures in and outside of the music. Things were also never just handed to me. For the most part, I had to either earn it or learn myself. Friends and family were the best kinds of support through the troubling times, preparing me for the next obstacles in spirit. And I know it appears to be another same sad struggle story, but if u read every book in the world would u just stop reading? There is constant change in the industry and in life. So there’s always something new to grasp, embrace and embody. My ace in the hole for all my experiences has been adaptability. So as I prepare for the next successes I also keep my spirit set for the harsh realities as well.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
Much gratitude! My main thing has been my pen game. Hip hop has been the main focus in that but I’ve also incorporated beat making and poetry under my arsenal as well. That whole community is so strong and will never die. I’m also learning guitar and can play a few notes on piano ahaha. With my music and creative ability though, I’m always thinking of ways to shift the crowd through subtleties and simplicity, Easter eggs and “what did he say” moments. I pay attention to the little things. The little things that make the big impact. Intricacy. The “unsung hero of the great records.” At the end of the day I’m an artist, songwriter, poet, producer and creative director all in one. And a lot of this had to do with no prior access to the resources or money for great quality, so I had to learn myself. I was a late bloomer to this. But some could say that it was in me all along lol. I base it all off inspo, from anime, battle rap, cartoons, nostalgia, and of course other artists I listen to that I feel are in the same music community as me.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m looking to tour and see the rest of the world with this project I’m working on. I have a GEM that’s been growing in the mines and I’m overly excited for the world to finally hear. It’s for my peoples, it’s also for myself. Cause I’m proud of the growth I see in myself musically and creatively as well as the growth in support I have from my fam and friends. I’m still stirring the pot but it’s coming soon. I’m making my sound as impactful as I can in my city as well as outside. Gonna link with more artists and creatives, and song-write for even bigger artists. God has a way in moving me so I just been going with His flow ever since jack. Lol
