Meet Kristin Couture of Daily Craving Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Couture.

Kristin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Daily Craving Productions was created due to a passion for quirky and whimsical stories. As an actress, I had already seen many different story breakdowns. The quality of script ranges from truly wonderful too, “who the hell is putting money behind this trash?” Which constantly reminds me how much money is out there. There’s always more money to find for productions and I felt it was time to really dive into that world and start making things I was truly passionate about.

What’s usually scary to people is trying to find the funding for a project and hearing the word no. I hear the word no all the time. It’s really not so scary though. “No” can often mean, “no, not right now,” or “no, I don’t feel like this is my project, maybe the next one.” And if it really is a firm no, then okay, so what. Continue to appreciate whatever relationship you have with that person and then move on to someone else who might be interested in being a part of your film. There will always be someone else who is interested. Seriously, there are like seven billion people in this world. Go make some friends. I promise you don’t have to be the cool kid to do it.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t think many people would describe the film industry as a “smooth road.” There are usually a constant stream of problems that arise. Going over budget, issues with weather or sound during filming, someone getting sick, etc. You never know what’s going to happen in between starting a project and finishing one, but if you have a talent for finding people who work their ass off and have fun doing it, then the problems don’t seem so difficult. Also, it helps to really believe in the project you’re working on. If you’re not absolutely in love with it, then what the hell are you doing making it? Why are you throwing money into something you feel is mediocre. It either still needs editing or it’s not the right project for you to be producing. Producing sometimes reminds me of a hurdle race. Obstacles are there from beginning to end, but that’s just part of it. Dealing with obstacles is like a muscle you can strengthen. The more you go for it and really try to make something, the better you will be the next time. But you’ll never know if you don’t try.

Also, hot tip. If you’re just starting out and don’t know where to find funding for a smaller project. Go to things like art shows, museum events, theater gatherings. There are so many people out there who want to support the arts or just be a part of something new. Think outside the box of where you might find them. You also might be surprised at what inspires you along the way.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Daily Craving is all about the quirky and whimsical. To me, it’s all about original stories. I love finding new writers with original ideas and I am always attracted to the strange and awe-inspiring. There are so many moments in life that feel surreal or incredibly ridiculous. Those are my kind of stories. Those are my kind of people.

What were you like growing up?
I was always interested in everything! My parents often joke about all the sports and activities I tried. You name it, I’ve probably tried it. Drums, soccer, fire dancing, rock climbing, opera singing, horseback riding, track, boxing, piano, the list goes on. Some of which I became good at, while others I am absolute garbage at doing. I always like trying something new though. More so, I’m always curious about the different people I meet with each activity. The personality range of my friends is a great sight to behold. Above all though, three things have always stuck. I love film, theatre, and books. I can’t get enough of them.
