Meet Andres Mendez, a local producer in South Central Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andres Mendez.

Andres, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It started when I was pretty young, like around the age of 12 or 13 and I had a really big interest in technology. I had been watching tutorials on YouTube where I had come across this website from a company called Image-Line. I had checked their website out and downloaded their DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) better known as Fruity Loops. I was pretty on and off with the software because I couldn’t figure out how to produce music at the time. Fast forward to 2018 I had reinstalled FL Studio and had been looking up YouTube videos on how to produce and make music online and had come across a guy named Kyle Beats (his YouTube channel) and I’ve always loved to watch his videos on how to produce because they were always very informal. I remember watching a video where he made a beat contest and people were able to join by flipping a melody he had made and put out for download and one contestant was named Simon Servida. He had switched up the beat he made from it 3 times and when I saw that happen, it was truly inspirational. Simon had his own channel on YouTube as well, He broke down how he made the beat that he entered in the contest and ever since then I’ve always been watching his videos on how to produce, constantly. Fast forward to august and Simon hosts a Masterclass for local producers/anyone who’s in LA. The event was very informational. It was a pretty long roller coaster of emotions because I’ve dedicated months and sleepless nights on trying to learn. I as of today still have much more to learn.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh boy where do I start, I’ve had multiple challenges ranging from financial burden, to losing my father. It’s been a huge struggle for the years coming after the tragedy. How to cope with my emotions when nobody was by my side but my mother, I love her to death. I was forced to move due to financial burden and I had nowhere to go. I was at the brink of losing the tightly knit group of friends because I thought I was gonna have to move pretty far. (It’s unfortunately expensive to live in Los Angeles.)

vivacityX – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in producing and it’s also what I’m known for. What’s sets me apart from others is the mindset I have. If you were to know me more personally, you wouldn’t be able to compare me to anyone.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
The way I personally define success as achieving something I’ve always wanted, financial stability and to at least inspire a million people through my struggles. There isn’t any specific marker I really look for. I put most if not all my trust in the Universe. It’s a very powerful force. Everything is connected by the Universe.
