Meet Tu DeVera of Jayvee Dance Center in San Gabriel Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tu DeVera.

Tu, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was volunteering at the studio one day a week when it first opened in 2004. A year later, I was promoted to the General Manager. Four years ago, I became the Studio Director. I’ve held almost every position here at the studio from a work study to an Instructor to now leading the studio with its programs,

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We’ve been through some ownership changes at the studio, along with other things that come and go, but I’ve been consistent with the growing studio the past 11 1/2 years. Dancers need consistency for their training to flourish. I’ve had dancers here with the studio for over 10 years and have “grown up” here. Many call this studio their second home.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jayvee Dance Center – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Jayvee Dance Center is leading dance studio in the San Gabriel Valley that offers a wide variety of programs from youth recreational classes to competition classes, adult fitness classes such as Pole and Zumba, and numerous opportunities for dancers to perform such as our annual recital and more. Currently, I am the studio director, leading a group of 4 staff members, 15 instructors, and over 400 students.

We’ve created as a team an award winning youth and teen competition companies, 4 performance groups, and 10 recitals. We’ve also produced 6 in-house adult dance showcases, along with numerous intensives, workshops, and other events. This May, we will have over 290 dancers in our 11th recital.

We provide rehearsal space for many dance companies such as Maker Empire, Culture Shock LA, and Family Bizness.

Our studio may be small, but it’s mighty and has a lot of heart.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We’re looking to definitely grow. We’ve outgrown the space and hope to relocate or expand the current location.
