Meet Dr. Kara MoraMarco-Kendrick DAOM, L.Ac in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Kara MoraMarco-Kendrick.

Dr. MoraMarco-Kendrick, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up with Chinese medicine as my parents were both acupuncturists and Doctors of Oriental Medicine. My father is currently the Academic Dean of the Masters and Doctoral program at Emperor’s College of Traditional Oriental Medicine in Santa Monica California.

At the age of six my father began training me in Chinese Martial Arts, including Tai Chi and Qi Gong. At age 9 I developed a passion for figure skating. I ultimately completed the Gold Medal Senior Level test of the USFSA. In addition, I cross-trained in ballet, yoga, and Pilates. While training at the Ice Castle International Training Center in Lake Arrowhead, California, I experienced, first hand, the benefits of acupuncture and herbal medicine for both prevention and healing of injuries in the arena of elite athletic training. Currently I train and my fun is playing Capoeira, an Afro Brazilian Martial Arts.

Following the completion of my Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology (Exercise Science) magna cum laude at California State University Northridge, I then earned my Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Traditional Oriental Medicine summa cum laude at Emperor’s College in Santa Monica, California.

My clinical internships included rotations at UCLA’s Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center as well as the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank as well as the Being Alive Community Clinic in West Hollywood.

Currently I am in private practice serving the Beverly Hills and its neighboring communities.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Unreasonable fear of needles! While most people associate pain from needles due to their experience with shots and blood tests, acupuncture needles are not same. The needles used during your acupuncture treatment are about 50 times thinner than hypodermic needles. Some patients feel nothing at all, others may experience a brief moment of discomfort. Most people find the experience extremely relaxing and some even fall asleep!

Dr. Kara MoraMarco-Kendrick DAOM, L.Ac – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. I specialize in acupuncture for many conditions including women’s health and fertility, stress reduction, various pain and sports related injuries. Oriental Medicine strives to treat the whole person therefore I see patients that have sleep problems, anxiety, allergies, digestive issues and much more. I also treat pediatric patients using a gentle non needle technique.

I am highly trained in Cupping Therapy, a method used effectively for muscular tension as seen on many Olympic athletes.

I am most proud that I can help my patients take positive steps to their health and wellbeing. The greatest feeling for me is when I hear from my patients that I have made a positive change in their life.

What sets me apart from others is that I have eclectic experience. My father is known as the “Elder Statesman of Acupuncture”. I have learned so much from him. I have traveled to China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Japan to study their Eastern Medicine specialties. What also sets me apart is that I am in the 1% of Licensed Acupuncturists that have continued their education to a Doctorate Degree.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Proudest moment is following my parents’ legacy to being of service.
