Meet MR. Bliss

Today we’d like to introduce you to MR. Bliss.

MR. Bliss, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started officially in entertainment around 1999 -2000, I was maybe 16 or 17 and honestly didn’t know I would be entertaining cause I started to BBOY(breakdance) but as years pass I started to learn a number of underground styles of dance like Popping, Locking, Waacking, New Style Hip Hop and Hip Hop Choreography, because of this I earned the name “sixx” self-taught, by doing research and hanging out with friends that Kinda supported me and as time passed on a lot of different OG’s (Originators), decided to help me on my path to where ever it is I was going.

I started professionally while I was dancing in high school for a club called “groove” which is when I realized I can make some money off of this and be happy at the same time… fast forward a bit 2003, I moved to Miami and got life with dancing started, my cousin knew I was a dancer so he hooked me up with doing party gigs and teaching at my 1st studio “Distinction dance company” owned by Tammy Farris… she eventually got my career completely started, introduced me to the right people and also kept educating me on her opinion of the dance industry she not only let me teach at the studio and grow but she also let me use her studio for free to help me out with my career.

I created my own squad T.E.A.M with my friend Phillip “PK” Kendrick and Adisa Gooding and we performed everywhere in the state and out of state to create a name in the commercial world of dance.

On the same hand, I had an underground street crew called “Mizguided Soulz” with co-founders Brendan Eldom, Noel Espada, Jose “Full Deck” Ruiz and Jonathan “Jon Boogz” Smith. We trained super hard together to become who we are today and also were wining competitions back to back and host and throwing competitions to give back to the community.

Miami is where I hit my 1st commercial gig starting with opening a show for “Tank & Avant” as a choreographer and because of this I started teaching all throughout Florida and through word of mouth I got booked by “Flo-Rida, Sean Kingston, Lil Wayne” under the management of Sheryl Steel which led to working with “Gloria Estefan” and the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters as a choreographer/dancer/Mascot.

These are the gigs that got me into LA, I was on a hot rise and it didn’t stop and was shortly picked up by the Famous Bloc LA as a dancer, thanks to Chuck Maldonado and that led me to work on stage and videos with Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, E-40, Too Short in front of the screen for national campaigns for Pepsi, Toyota and Google and also the mascot for the LA Sparks & LA Clippers.

In between choreographing, dancing, directing, I also wanted to get into film and started to audition for small acting roles and extra gigs and got lucky choreographing complex dance sequences in the cult indie film “DYSFUNKTION” and showed numerous acting skills in “GOOK”

Shortly after the movie, I started getting into hosting ( City walk, Hip Hop events, etc) because of this I was told by an A&R from “Sony” that “I should look into being a recording artist and so I did … I jumped, and with the help of Korede Sonupe (roommate) and “Jaq Moon” I started really getting ambitious with music and doing local shows and events like “Choreographers Carnival” as a recording artist and not only as a choreographer  and shortly after with good friends that support my work I was started working with a dope producer “Clayton William” who is now a producer for Empire.

With everything going on in my life I extremely happy with where the path my life is going.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
NO !! it definitely has not been a smooth road…… a lot of my blessing came with a huge struggles.

1. Florida was pretty chill but when I left Orlando to go to Miami i had a lot of backlash cause I had to make an ultimatum and I chose my career at the cost of a huge heartbreak (thinking that person would come with me).

2. I moved to Miami and was having a hard time, paying my own rent, etc so I was supposed to stay with a family member that had a nice house in Miami gardens and two days before I was going to move in I was told that I couldn’t live there and the last place I was at already sold the place to another client so I couldn’t go back so I ended up staying in a storage unit in Broward County for $50 a week for pretty much a whole year.

A. In LA I had a similar situation but that was for three months and not a family member.

3. In between most of my gigs asthma was a big thing and cause to a lot of my injuries sometimes leaving me in the hospital for months.

4. At one point auditioning and dancing was impossible because of injuries so money was limited.

5. BLOC LA let me go.

6. My house has been broken into a few time.

7. Car got stolen.

8. The biggest one was my grandmother passing away.

Life happens we keep trucking.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
