Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariana Kaufman.
Ariana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am originally from Nashville, TN, and grew up in an artist family. My father’s side were performers in vaudeville and Yiddish theater and my mother’s side were flamenco dancers and actors. That being the case, I always knew I wanted to be an actor of some kind. I studied acting at The Lee Strasberg Film and Theater Institute.
Has it been a smooth road?
To be an actor in L.A is always a struggle. There will be a season of getting constant work and then nothing. I feel that messes with one’s self-worth quite a bit. My struggle is having patience, believing in myself, and not giving up. But when I get a job it feels euphoric and I’m reminded why I love this art. We have to love it more than anything to put ourselves through such personal hell for it.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I work as an equine massage therapist. Usually, I work with horses who have been badly abused and have trust issues with humans. It’s all about listening to the horse. In my spare time, I vault, which is gymnastics on a horse.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I have lived in Highland Park for ten years and I love all the trees, hiking, the community, architecture, etc. I dislike that LA is a car-centric city, I wish there was better public transportation.
