Meet Ms. Cathie Nicholas of Nicholas Dance Studio in Leimert Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ms. Cathie Nicholas.

How does this story start?
I WOKE up one day and told my two children “I want to be my own BOSS and own a dance studio… and 17 days later with lots of prayer and support from my mom (and no business plan- that my USC MBA sister was not fond of) I got the keys to 4273 CRENSHAW Blvd, right in my own backyard. NICHOLAS DANCE STUDIO was born. Growing up and raising my kids in the View Park area – and a Crenshaw High School graduate, it was PERFECT! I host dance classes for ages 2-102. Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop and a competitive dance team. NDS has quickly become 1 of the hottest dance stops for nightly adult fitness classes ranging from High Heel Movement- Trap Zumba. And a favorite destination for ‘Tiny Tappers’ ages 2-6.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have actually been extremely blessed with a great life and fantastic career. A major struggle for me was losing 3 of the most influential people in my career. My dance teachers Paul & Arlene Kennedy from Universal Dance Designs. And the day my grandfather passed away. That day was felt all over the world. They were all extremely instrumental in my dancing and I know I am making them proud in continuing their legacies.

Nicholas Dance Studio – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
