Meet Nayome

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nayome.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Music became second nature for me in Middle school. I joined the choir and learned how to read music and found the passion within performing and singing. However, I didn’t believe that I could continue beyond that moment, I was shadowed by fear or rejection. Therefore, I entered high school playing sports and decided to pursue a business marketing at Texas State University. It wasn’t until my early junior year where I suddenly formed a mindset of making music happen. No matter if I didn’t know what I was doing, going 3rd year in a degree, I just knew that I had a gift, and I had to use it. I finally wrote my first song, “Missing you” (https://soundcloud.com/nomi-sutton/missing-you) which was inspired by an emotional moment in my life. It might have had the lowest production (it was in a friend’s homemade closet studio) but it worked out! I felt a passion for conveying my feelings into words and music. I was convinced in that moment that the only validation I need with my passion to seek is within myself.

From there, I decided that I would put together an EP, which I later released in August of 2018 named, “Recovered+” I had no idea what I was doing with this project but every time I would find a beat and I’d write down what I was feeling in my own way. I wasn’t really performing at the time, I did my first performance April of 2018 at a pool party and a few others locally. It wasn’t until I submitted my music to KUTX thebreaks where my music essentially was beginning to be played in Austin, TX. This expanded my audience and got me opportunities to perform on bigger platforms within a year of pursuing music. I always seem to pitch myself as an artist and I believe that someone will believe in you. Thanks to Confuscious and Fresh at thebreaks, I was able to secure my first festival performance at SXSW and the possibilities are endless if I just believe and have a passion in what I’m doing.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Pursuing music while pursuing a degree wasn’t the easiest thing in the world, but it takes work ethic to make your dreams happen. I’m a firm believer in manifesting, but manifesting means speaking, believing, and taking the actions to make things happen. There were times where I had an 8 am class, but I stayed up till 3/4 am in the morning just to make music happen. I was tired, and sometimes I was just drained emotionally. I questioned my music path and had my days and sometimes weeks were inspiration was struggling to come in because I was so frustrated with my circumstances of life. I then learned that I have to take care of my mental and physical health in order to flourish with my passion. So I took it day by day and to this day, I’m forever learning how I can grow and take that next step in my career. Its all about making the smartest moves for your path, keeping the faith in your dream, and forever learning.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an R&B singer/songwriter based out of central Texas. I also have a passion in dancing which I am most recently incorporating for my sets. I am the founder of an organization, “Queen empire Dance” in which the org promotes confidence and expression through dance. I am proud that I am able to stay true to myself along this journey and bring people happiness in my music. I am thankful for those who choose to listen to my expression and appreciate it deeply. What sets me apart from the rest is something I don’t really feel I can answer just because I don’t get caught up in comparisons. We are all on our different paths and each one of them are beautiful.

Current releases: “Recovered EP+” August 2018 – What you need – February 14, 2018.
Upcoming Projects: I plan on releasing a collaboration EP with Amoraa (Amoraasluv) in April of 2020 named “Feelings.” This is going to be something special because there’s so much inspiration behind what he feel. Not only that, I’m working with one of my best friends on the project. Its been fun being in and out of LA to make some of the tracks happen. Even in November, ill be performing for the first time in LA to debut some things from the project.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’ve most definitely been lucky, intentionally. I put that energy out there, in fact I have a single releasing in Feb 2020 named “Lucky” with my friend/ LA artist, Amoraa. I think its one of my favorite songs I’ve done because it’s such a feel good song and it makes you feel like something good is unfolding in your life. “I feel so lucky to have you honey” is a lyric from the song that I’m trying to manifest by that time of valentines. I’ve played it a million times and I can’t wait to share the message with everyone. It’s definitely for the lovers and love seekers 🙂
