Meet Francesca Forquet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Francesca Forquet.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have had a passion for photography since I was a little girl and finally while I was attending the Academy of Belle Arti in Bologna, Italy, I landed a job as a photo reporter for a local newspaper.

I enjoyed the crazy pace of a photo reporter’s life, always running from one story to another, having to get involved into people’s lives and professions in order to be able to tell their stories, convey their passion and report it to the public. I especially enjoyed the necessity to immediately immerse into situations and lives, like a writer or an actor would do, in order to share the very unique connection that arises between me and my subject. It’s like living 1,000 lives!

Even though I loved that job, I had my son and the demands of photojournalism became unpractical to reconcile with a young mother’s life. Therefore I learned and then worked also as a graphic designer.

I later moved to Milano, one of the fashion capitals of the world. In Milano, while I continued to do photoshoots for magazines and fashion designers, I also started to collaborate as art director and creative with various Advertising Agencies and Art Museums.

In 2017, I moved to Santa Monica to work as an AD for an Entertainment Ad agency. I enjoyed a lot creating posters for Tv series and movies because the creative process is very similar to what I was used to as a photo reporter: convey my connection and my perception of a specific project and combine it in the most beautiful way into a single picture.

Since the beginning of 2019, I decided to go back full time to pursuing my original passion for photography and reportage and started to work mostly as a freelance photographer.

Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest challenge was having to learn in my early twenties to be a professional and a mother at the same time.

I had to make a lot of hard compromises because many times it was difficult to reconcile as a single mother the everyday routine and schedules necessary to raise a healthy child, and the heavy demands for commitment and availability that are generally imposed on young creatives.

This particular constraints, however allowed me to grow and become, at a very young age, extremely focused and practical, to learn and absorb quickly and efficiently most of the technical and economic aspects of my profession without relinquishing my duties as a mother.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a freelance photographer and graphic designer. Specializing in editorial, storytelling and fashion advertising photography. I am always seeking opportunities to collaborate with magazines, bloggers, and small brands.

What sets me apart are my skills as a graphic designer that, combined with my photography background, allows me to work particularly well with small companies and entrepreneurs that require services in the areas of photography, advertising and branding, I can offer them the convenience of a one-stop shop!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, Los Angeles being a huge and diverse city, economically vibrant, offers a lot of opportunities in a wide range of fields.

I would definitely recommend Los Angeles as a place where to start any business, including services that offer what I do.
