Meet Styles By Jean

Today we’d like to introduce you to Styles By Jean.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My passion for makeup ignited on a trip to Mexico with my family. I was about four years old and remember being mesmerized by my mom’s makeup while she danced with my grandpa. I vividly remember my happy ass smile when I saw myself in the mirror with all that blush! Throughout my young life, whenever I would think about what I wanted to persue, that image of my happy self would come to mind.

During my last year of high school, I was determined to find the best makeup school in my area and study makeup in depth. To my happy surprise, on a field trip to a college fair, I found my school and was beyond ecstatic. But when I told my parents my plan, and that I had found my school, they were far from happy. They didn’t understand that my choice was more than a career choice, it was my decision to be happy and truly enjoy and love what I do.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a creative makeup visual artist. My favorite medium has always been makeup. I love the power of transformation and the empowerment makeup can bring to ANYONE! Right now, in my artistic evolution, I am obsessed with immortalizing my creations or other visions in photographs. I do makeup, hair styling, flower headpieces, props. Pretty much anything I have to, to bring the vision to life.

Each project/idea/inspiration comes with a different creative process and also a different message. Sometimes, it’s myself creating everything, including being the model. Othertimes, I will work and collaborate with friends and fellow artist to reach our vision.

I hope people see beauty, grace, and happiness in what I create. My art is to make people smile. To bring them joy in observing an image, or seeing themselves transformed into an art piece.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
*Don’t let people convince you that you can’t do it!!!!
*Don’t be afraid to reach out to other people/artist if you want to collaborate, the worst that can happen is they say No.
*Don’t listen to your fears or self-doubts, they are lies about yourself.
