Meet Ming Dai Lac of Ming’s Acupuncture, Massage and Herbs in Burbank and Downtown LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ming Dai, Lac.

Ming, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
During the Chinese revolution I was sent to a farm to work. There were no doctors and when the farmers got sick there was nowhere to go. I myself caught malaria and was very, very ill. It was at about that time that I decided I wanted to become a doctor. I was allowed by the government to go to medical school because I studied for, and passed a big exam. I became an internist and worked for fifteen years at a big hospital in Shanghai. During that time I learned to frown upon Traditional Chinese Medicine until an Uncle of mine suffered a massive heart attack and western medicine techniques were unable to save him. But Traditional Chinese Medicine did, and thirty years later, he is still alive. This changed my life and my thinking about natural healing and the power of the human body. I started studying the ancient ways and when I immigrated to the United States with my daughter, I continued my studies and opened my business in 2003 and have been practicing ever since. Using a combination of acupuncture, acupressure and herbal medicine I have been able not only to give my daughter a new life, but help hundreds of people every year which I love. My practice in Burbank is in the beautiful and accessible Magnolia Park section and I have just recently opened a second office in the downtown Los Angeles “Petroleum Building”. I am truly living the American Dream.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I came to this country with my daughter. We were alone. We spoke no English, had no friends, no family and were unused to the culture. Providing for my daughter was very important. I learned English in a coffee shop. My small apartment was over a coffee shop and I learned to speak English by talking to all the retired people who sat in the coffee shop for hours. They were a great help to me and were very patient. I learned how to go to the bank, make a deposit, mail things at the post office and how to shop for groceries. I also enrolled in school. I also learned how to drive. Day by day I learned how to live in this country. I am lucky because I never doubted that I would be successful. I always had faith.

Please tell us about Ming’s Acupuncture, Massage and Herbs.
I own and operate a health clinic specializing in the application of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). I use acupuncture, massage and herbs to treat injuries and a number of disorders. Chinese Medicine is based on the belief that the whole body, when healthy, is its own best doctor. With my background in Western Medicine, anatomy, Herbology, acupuncture, weather, psychology and my love and continued research into TCM I am uniquely qualified. My patients in Burbank have referred to me as the “magical acupuncturist” and I am very proud to have helped so many people. My focus is on mood/psychology, lifestyle, diet and exercise. I tell my patients that I can help them from the outside, but they must help me help them by working on their insides! I spend a lot of time with my patients and some have been seeing me for years and I think this also helps set me apart. I had three new patients just this morning who were referred to me by two separate families. That makes me happy!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Before the Chinese revolution I remember traveling with my father and my little sister to “Yellow Mountain”. I was five and my sister was four.
