Today we’d like to introduce you to Liron Kayvan.
Liron, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been a trainer for over ten years. Throughout college and after. It took me a long time to muster the courage to open my own business but after getting married I felt I needed to.
I think for me Inspiration is my guiding principle in life. And I was no longer inspired by working out of other people’s gyms or working in other industries, like Commercial Real Estate.
It was kind of a snap decision, out of the blue. I was on vacation with my wife in England (that’s where I’m from). I remember telling people I was thinking about opening my own place, and then as soon as we landed back in LA, I just signed the lease. I had very little in terms of business plans, but I know a lot about fitness and gyms. I’m also lucky to be surrounded by supportive friends and family and people who know a lot about the nuns and outs of running a business.
Since that day it has been a lot of work, but I absolutely love it. It’s exciting and fresh every day and the business is evolving and taking on a life of its own. It feels like a real adventure!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road but in all honesty the biggest obstacle has been my own lack of confidence. I think being an immigrant can often lead you to feel like you’re out of your comfort zone. That can be very exciting and inspiring, but in the early days I felt that I didn’t have the same sense of security or belonging. It’s not true obviously but that can affect your willingness to be bold and go after what you want and deserve. It took me a while to fully embrace my situation and confront these feelings. At some point, I realized that Home is a made-up concept, it’s a feeling that you have access to in any moment. Soon after I understood that my confidence began to rise and I was more able to take action and go after what I wanted. That is a foundational requirement for any entrepreneur I feel.
Please tell us about Beyond Fitness LA.
We’re a private Personal Training Business based in Westwood. We do 1-on-1 or Small Groups. What makes BFLA is that we train the whole person. So we take into account not only training and nutrition but lifestyles factors and most importantly, perhaps, getting the right mentality to achieve fitness success. This is an extremely under appreciated aspect of Personal Training and is criminally overlooked by the fitness industry. We’ve found that once people are inspired and have a clear understanding of WHAT they want and WHY they want to achieve it, the HOW comes easier. And we’ve been lucky enough to achieve outstanding results and have a good time doing it.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Well, I’m sure most people will tell you that they don’t regret anything, and everything was a learning experience. I think I probably would have started this journey sooner, and been more enthusiastic to just roll the dice and play the game.
