Today we’d like to introduce you to Ludovica Forcina.
Ludovica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My father introduced me to the world of cinema and photography when I was 14 and I haven’t left that world since. I started with a very basic Canon camera, taking pictures of flowers, eyes, and landscapes, the typical pictures an amateur takes. The pictures weren’t great, but the feeling was. Slowly I started to take better pictures, going to photography classes, studying works by great photographers, and just shooting everyday. I decided to go to an art college to pursue this love of photography.
I went to the School of Visual Arts in NYC and I loved every second of it. I was surrounded by artists and art everyday and I wouldn’t be the artist I am today if it weren’t for my peers and professors. I experimented with a few different styles, starting from film noir photography to portraits and still lives. Photography is the only thing I’m good at, and one of the biggest loves of my life so I have to keep going and will never stop.
Has it been a smooth road?
Some of the struggles have been trying to make it as a full-time photographer and finding the right path to be on. In today’s world with social media and access to millions of images everyday it’s hard to stay focused on my own path and not compare myself to other artists. The typical question ‘why them and not me?’ always rises, but I try to keep level headed when I go through those moments and remind myself that my time will come. Another struggle has been finding reliable people to count on.
I’ve learned that I can only count on myself in this industry, and not on other people.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ludovica Forcina Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
After trying out many photography styles and subjects, I just kept going back to the female subject. I find that I am better at capturing a woman’s essence, her sexuality through her sensuality. As a woman, I connect with other women so it’s easier for me to create with someone that I am in synch with. Some people forget that the human body is art, each curve, line, flaw and mark. I photograph the female body not in a way that is shown as a sexual object, but in a romantic sensual way.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’m from Rome, Italy and I absolutely love it. I think it’s the most beautiful city in the world with the most beautiful people and culture. However, currently I live in LA and I have mixed feelings about it. I like how easy it is to meet other people and collaborate with other artists, but on the other hand you have to be very careful who you give your energy to. I’m planning on moving back to Italy in a month because I feel more at home there and the thing I love the most is that I am surrounded by art and culture there.
