Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamy Bruder.
Kamy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up racing dirt bikes in Europe, then in the US and did that until my early 20s. I then joined an acting conservatory in Santa Monica, CA and studied there for about a year and a half before quitting and getting a 9 to 5. Life is miserable when you’re not pursuing your passion – so three and a half years ago in June 2016 I found the courage to quit that job and pursue my passion and be an actor and stuntman and join the hustle.
It had to be I give it a 100% or nothing at all… It’s been pretty fun since! I have a lot of people to thank but none more than my fiancé Amanda for pushing me to pursuit my dream and get out of my rut.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Listen, who’s gonna tell you it’s easy, right? Life isn’t easy for most. I think it’s just a mindset at the end of the day. As an athlete, nothing is given to you, you have to train for free for years and years with the hope to maybe someday make a living doing it. It’s no different here. You have to love doing it for nothing. You gotta hustle, and hustle and keep on going, keep on training, keep on being the best version of yourself you can possibly be and then maybe it’ll work out. If that doesn’t sound good and exciting to you, this is not the city or the business for you. Simple as that. But along the way of the hustle, some pretty freaking magical things can happen. That’s the difference – to me, the possibility alone of achieving great things is enough to keep me going. I’d rather lose everything and know I made all the sacrifices to live my best possible life than to live in the comfort of just being a normal guy living a normal boring life with all the boring comforts that come with it.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’ve been working pretty consistently as an actor, a stuntman, and a stunt coordinator. In 2017, I won Best Actor at the La Jolla International Film Festival and ended up meeting some incredible filmmakers along the way. We have some films in development you won’t want to miss. Since then, I got to work on some pretty special projects in and out of LA. I shot a feature film in Petersburg, Alaska, a pilot in South Africa, an award-winning short film called Innocent Boy in Texas, and I’m currently writing this interview from Finland where I’m filming a feature film called Insite co-starring Eric Roberts.
Also, I have a background in martial arts, so stunts have always been pretty fascinating to me. If I’m not acting or doing stunts myself, I also act as a stunt coordinator on various types of projects, from CRYPT TV series to music videos, shorts and features. It’s a great way for me to stay busy and constantly be on set. Set = home.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
It seems the harder I work the luckier I get.
I plan on keeping with that mindset. This is primarily personal to me. I don’t owe it to anyone but myself to be successful. It took me almost 30 years to be true to myself and pursue the career I wanted to… so it’s a great feeling waking up and knowing I’m finally living the life I knew I could.
