Meet Heather Daughtry and Aysia Drew of Cherry Popper Podcast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Daughtry and Aysia Drew.

Being open-minded and ready to collaborate goes a long way. The podcast came to light when Heather better known as HDee called up some of her close gal pals when she had an epiphany that they should start a podcast. The excitement squealed over the voice text messages as everyone was ready and anxious to get started. After a few weeks, turned months; schedules and other nuances put the development process on hold. Then about six months later, one of the gals, who we know as Aysia Drew, reached out to HDee and said “sis, I’m still down for the podcast!” They then hit the ground immediately and developed a google doc with two columns: one for HDee and one for Aysia Drew where they wrote down their interests and passions.

As HDee went through Aysia’s side of the list, hyped at everything they have in common (no surprise as they are besties), she paused when she saw that Aysia wrote the following: “First time experiences (ex: first time on a plane or first time eating something new)… or maybe that’s something we can do…”. Running to her phone to send a voice note screaming, then sending the golden idea over, a podcast about first time experiences was born! They later did a similar brainstorm were they gathered all possible names for the podcast and decided to go with a play off words resulting in the Cherry Popper Podcast, a podcast about ALL FIRST time experiences!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Boy would we love to say that it’s been smooth sailing, but in reality, what road to success is smooth? Without the trial and error, we wouldn’t have the knowledge in certain areas that we attain now. We appreciate the process and as we continue to grow, we will have something to look back on and say wow, we made it through all of the roadblocks, money shortages and technical difficulties. Those three components were by far the top 3 struggles along the way.

For roadblocks, certain resources that we needed fell through at the last minute. However, each and every time, God made it happen when we least expected it. For example, one event we thought okay, we have to remember to get footage because we hadn’t heard from our photographer and then literally an hour before the event, the photographer popped up out of nowhere.

Regarding money shortages (I like the way shortage sounds- better than 2 broke b*tches, right? LOL) We definitely have a lot of bills, debt and other priorities, so developing this business has been quite the financial load. But we can’t look at it that way, we always try to remain positive. We have each other’s back and pay the other back when we might need to and keep it pushing. We are a team so as long as we have that open communication and good energy, it all works out.

Lastly, the technically difficulties. Phew… Well, none of us studied audio engineering or editing so it’s something we had to lean on YouTube University so we can teach ourselves. We also reached out to fellow podcasters who started before us for tips and tricks which has been great.

Please tell us about Cherry Popper Podcast.
Cherry Popper Podcast is a fun, storytelling podcast that discusses an array of first-time experiences. Accompanying the podcast is a YouTube Vlog that consists of fun skits, experiences and Vlog style videos where the audience can get a more personable look at the hosts’ personalities. For the podcast, hosts Aysia Drew and HDee take a deep dive into topics where they discuss these experiences throughout their lifetime. For example, an episode about their first time moving out would encompass their first time moving to the college campus, first roommate in the college, first apartment, first roommate in the apartment, first time throwing a dorm or apartment party, first time going to one, etc. The stories are hilariousengaging and super relatable! The purpose of the podcast and what sets us apart is that our podcast brings back a sense of nostalgia to those listening, as well as sparks ideas to our audience so they can be willing and excited to try new things for the first time. Life is too short to hold back and live in fear. Pop those cherries and enjoy a life full of adventure, failure and bounce backs with laughs and memories!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Our “luck” has been nothing short of God’s grace and blessings over our life. He may not come when we want, but He’ll be there right on time! Literally, everything has worked out from when it seems like we would be the only two at an event, or when we have to improvise because we want things that our bank account can’t buy. God has really came through and we have always had what we needed in the end. That is what keeps us going. We feel like this is purposeful. We have come together to make something great. After every episode, we are always filled with joy as we know we just had a great conversation and we are so appreciative of everyone who has supported us, followed and subscribed to our Podcast, YouTube and IG.
