Meet Linsey Atis of Plumb Line Pilates & Physical Therapy in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linsey Atis.

Linsey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After moving to Los Angeles in 2013, I was introduced to Women’s Health Physical Therapist and Founder of Plumb Line Pilates & Physical Therapy studio, Allison Oswald. I was in between deciding if I wanted to attend graduate school for physical therapy and thought that having experience working in a PT studio would be a great place to start to see if that was the path I wanted to take.

After a few years of doing office and admin work for the studio and observing Allison and other practitioners in her space approach rehabilitation and movement in a holistic and educational way, I knew that that was the type of work I wanted to do. In 2015, I was offered the opportunity to become certified in Pilates with additional training by Allison to specialize on working with pregnant and postpartum clients.

Today, I am so grateful for what I do and the people I get to work with and mainly to Allison and Plumb Line studio for supporting me throughout my teaching career.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of the biggest struggles I’ve had is in finding my own voice and my own way of teaching that felt good to me. When I first started I used to compare myself to other instructors, thinking that I wouldn’t be fit enough or knowledgeable enough about this work.

What I have realized over the years and continue to work on is the understanding behind the “why” in what I do. Going back to my values on why I want to do this work on educating others through conscious functional movement especially through pregnancy and postpartum has steered me to the right path in feeling good about my own voice and teaching versus comparing myself to others.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Plumb Line Pilates & Physical Therapy story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a Pilates instructor at Plumb Line Pilates & Physical Therapy in Santa Monica, CA. I specialize in also seeing clients who are pregnant and postpartum. I work closely with our Women’s Health Physical Therapist, Allison Oswald in creating a Pilates program at our studio to ensure safe and functional movements for women throughout any trimester of their pregnancy and especially after having a baby.

I am most proud of Plumb Line studio because it has become a safe and healing space for our clients, both mentally and physically. I am a huge advocate in educating others about their body through functional movement and Plumb Line studio creates just that type of space. We work closely with our clients either through a one on one private session or small group classes to empower them to connect to their bodies through awareness and movement to take on with them throughout their daily life and routine.

Just this year we also started a monthly speaker series at our studio called “A Conversation” for our clients and the women in our community who are seeking education, support, and insights. We talk about topics such as health, wellness, fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, motherhood and more. It is amazing to see women supporting women through all stages of their life and I am so happy and proud of Plumb Line studio for holding that sacred space to do so.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck, both good and bad, has significantly played a role in my life. I think that luck is actually hard work, patience, honesty and awareness of oneself. I believe that good luck comes when we align our worthiness and what we value to what we do and who are. When that aligns, I find that the opportunities that arise for me that may be considered “good luck” have actually been in front of me this whole time – it was only a matter of myself understanding that I am capable of having it.

And although as much as I like to think that the “bad” luck has played a negative role in my life, I think that it has actually taught me the gifts about myself that I would have never even known if it weren’t for those experiences. I think that the bad luck has shown me the parts of myself where I can be truthfully honest about what is/isn’t working in my life/business. More importantly, I find that it has allowed me to slow down and see where I need to support, nurture and grow myself both in my personal life and business.
