Today we’d like to introduce you to Caro Pampillo.
Caro, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m a versatile and passionate artist. European ancestry and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, I feel I’m from the world. I grew up in a very strict educational system, attending a private catholic school where acting, singing and dancing wasn’t seen as appropriate nor considered as a professional career. But I managed to follow my dreams anyway, taking extensive classes after school hours. Since then, I turned my passion for performance into a commercially successful and critically acclaimed career of over 20 plus years.
My acting debut was at six years old on tv commercials, then as a teenage lead actress, singer and dancer in a musical TV series on the national television channel Canal 9 Argentina. I worked on TV shows shown on national channels TELEFE, Canal 13, and The Disney Channel on numerous primetime TV series, soap operas, feature films and commercials airing in South America and even Israel. I also modeled for major brands all over the world. This was my first time working with American crew shooting so many commercials in Argentina for all these worldwide brands.
My work on stage includes hit Broadway musicals like the Argentinian production of Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein with the lead role of Inga. For this, I was recognized with nominations for A.C.E. and Hugo Awards, the literary equivalent of the Tony Awards, and I’ll never forget after the premiere when Mel Brook’s partner and author Thomas Meehan gave me a hug and thanked me for giving Inga this passionate, sparkling and loving personality. I really enjoy comedy, making people laugh and have a great time, while I enjoy and have a great time on stage or on set…that’s the best. I also love action. I’m a physical actress as I grew up as a dancer and as an athlete. I got a black belt in kung fu, so I was performing my own stunts in South America… And now, I’m a stunt performer on CBS shows “Hawaii Five-O” and “Magnum PI” shooting in Honolulu-Hawaii.
In 2015 after a life-changing experience, I ventured to Los Angeles, California to further my acting opportunities in L.A. and in 2018 I felt the call of flying to Hawaii to swim with the dolphins and to feel more creative to finish my musical project. So while diving, surfing, exploring and sailing the Hawaiian Islands, I finished my album “SINDHU”. I’ve been a professional singer in various musical projects as well as a live and studio vocalist, and I developed my own sound as a composer and a producer.
Giving birth to my son at a young age helped me to inspire my artistic inner world and in 2001 I began to write songs in Spanish and English. Back in 2008 I acquired a music editing program and a loop station and became fascinated with the possibilities, creating my own music whenever I wasn’t acting. Tim Thorney, the Canadian producer for Alanis Morissette, Dalbello, and many more, offered to produce four of my songs, this was so motivating. As a self-taught musician, I started combining my South American roots with many other world influences. My studies in Buddhist and Zen philosophy and practice of Kung Fu and Meditation led me to the name “SINDHU” (Sanskrit for oceans, rivers, seas); it started like an alter ego name and my musical project. I composed, produced and arranged this concept album after starting in a very intuitive way recording nature’s sounds and animals like birds, dolphins, a rooster, and the purring of my cat.
On top of these I sang universal mantras and translated my own lyrics to Sanskrit so the words became melodies that enhance the musical journey. Several professional musicians who understood my concept and vision and fell in love with my music agreed to record their instrumentals for the album. I coordinated the recording from Hawaii with composer/producer/engineer Lucas Villemur and Mario Siperman, in LA and Buenos Aires. Within a month of its release, “SINDHU” gained recognition across a variety of different radio stations. The Recording Academy considered the album for the 61st GRAMMY AWARDS as Best New Age Album, and it qualified as Album of The Year, Best New Artist and Best Vocal Album for the 15th Annual Zone Music Reporter Awards on 2019.
Also by May 2019, I wrote, produced and shot in Los Angeles the short film “PEACE OF MIND” based on human sex trafficking. I’m the lead actress telling this terrifying and empowering story. I trained the fight choreography with Sensei Richard Mesquita, stunt, fight trainer and choreographer for David Ayer’s “Bright”, “End of Watch”, “Street Kings” and “Harsh Times”. The film is music driven and I wrote and performed the main song “Peace of Mind” which was produced by Tim Thorney and recorded in Canada at Villa Sound studio by engineer Adam Fair. I chose Lucas Villemur to be also the composer for the film score, sound designer and mixer. as I trust his professionalism, skills, sensitivity and his colorful visual way of conceiving music that I wanted for the film; it’s like he puts images and feelings on each musical note he creates.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I gave birth to my son at a very young age and I faced some tough personal challenges throughout my life, but as a survivor and a warrior I persevered, not allowing anything to stop me from being happy and pursuing my dreams, while sorting out life’s struggles and experiences that shaped me into an artist with a lot of versatility and power.
In 2015 after a life-changing experience, I ventured to Los Angeles, California with my son so he could have more opportunities to study and grow, and I tried to further my acting opportunities in L.A. This was not easy as coming from South America…in that moment my accent was more noticeable, although indescribable, and although people couldn’t tell where I was from and loved my accent, some agents and casting directors would say that my main language was Spanish but I didn’t look as “Latina”…so they didn’t know how to book me. I think I didn’t meet the right people. Although I booked some commercials and web series, I wasn’t working at the same level that I used to and it wasn’t the life I visualized. This was frustrating, so my intuition called me to focus on my musical projects and move closer to nature.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a versatile SAG actress, professional singer, songwriter, producer, stunt woman. I can perform my own stunts, sing an opera, rock or jazz song while flying or hanging upside down with a harness, and I can almost shape-shift into a dolphin each time I’m in the ocean. 🙂 Oh, and I created the best piece of art- my son. Nobody can really tell where I am from, and I feel I’m from the world. 🙂
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m now living back and forth between Honolulu and Los Angeles, depending on my acting roles and stunt performer work on these TV shows. Although still in post-production, I’m hoping to present my short film “PEACE OF MIND” soon on film festivals. I’m also writing and composing new songs and they will be like the ocean spirit’s voice. As I spend a lot of time in Hawaii and I’m a passionate environmentalist, I want to help create awareness and consciousness about our oceans. I’m so excited to be partnering with Lucas Villemur who will be the music producer, and I’ll also perform some of his compositions.
Once the music is finished, I hope to find a filmmaker to shoot in Hawaii showing the amazing ocean life that our next generations could be enjoying if we take an action now. As an artist I feel I have super-tools for giving messages. This is what I feel it’s my mission. I keep prioritizing happiness and passion on every creation I give life to…a song, a performance, a character, or a story.
