Meet Benjamin Brawer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjamin Brawer.

Benjamin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Sweden, although my dad is from Queens, New York and my mom is from Mbale, Uganda.

Although I studied Financial Economy in school, my main dream and focus is and has always been acting. I started acting at a young age, where I began acting in Swedish kid shows before I eventually grew up and started acting in different commercials and short movies.

Today I am located in Santa Barbara, California, were I’m studying Theatre Arts at Santa Barbara City College. This is a city I one day would love to call home.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Acting-wise, it has gone very well. Acting and drama is a type of art, and since I fell in love with it at a young age, I have always been dedicated to learn more and become better. Failure has never been a struggle for me. If I have a goal, I will do whatever it takes to accomplish it. My mind has always been set on being the best and for that reason I will not let anything stop me. Therefore I see all challenges, whether their good or not as opportunities.

When it comes to my living situation, it was a bit more difficult. I have faced many challenges throughout my life. School was never really my best attribute, my family was never the richest therefore I was put up against many tough situations. I changed schools three different times and was very close to being expelled from the last one because of my behavior.

This was one of the darkest times in my life. But I somehow held my head up high and managed to be strong and graduate with a “degree” in financial economy. Now my biggest focus is acting where I have told myself to listen to myself and be the best there is.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
When it comes to acting I’m a very dedicated and hard-working person. I will always bring out the best of me, and do whatever it takes from me.

My strongest attribute is and has always been being myself. I have never felt the need to change who I am no matter where I am, or who I am around with. Ever since I was a young kid my dad always taught me three important things. Respect, knowledge and dignity. I carry these things around with me where ever I go. Success is also very often about finding who you truly are, and being able to express yourself, which I believe I’m very good at.

I am in general, a very happy person as well. I love making other people laugh and have a good time, and I think that is a big reason to why I connect with so many people. For that reason, I’m also very good at adapting to different genres within acting. I can easily act in anything from comedy to action to drama.
