Today we’d like to introduce you to Vic Hill.
Vic, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a Los Angeles native by way of Compton, CA. My story is unorthodox and a combination of entrepreneurship, philanthropy, fatherhood, and plenty of speed bumps along the way. I have always been entrepreneurial, a bit nomadic, an adrenaline junkie, and an adventure seeker. Those characteristics of my personality began shining through at a very early age, which led me to become a competitive snowboarder when I was younger. As an adult, I pursue opportunities that align with those same personality traits, such as skydiving, starting a few companies, and of course, joining the military.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth? No way! In partnership with my two close friends, Wil & Wes Turner, I started and dissolved four brands/companies that spanned across different industries: model and artist management, event planning, promoting, and technology. Every venture we embarked on had the same goal with an adjusted tactic but lacked a key ingredient. I certainly learned from every experience and sought advice from those more experienced than me along the way.
On a personal note, I struggled in the beginning when I became a single father to my beautiful blessing of a daughter. At first it was challenging to balance a full-time job while building a business and adjusting to life as a single dad. Ultimately, my daughter has taught me the importance of balance and enjoying the small wins along the way.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with MyRuck – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My fellow Army buddy and I have developed the mission of MyRuck to empower military members to leverage every benefit they have earned through their service. It is designed to be an active tracker for service-member benefits. My business partner, a fellow Army Officer, and I focus on providing real-time benefits analysis and solutions at Federal, State, County, and City levels.
In the past, I focused on ideas that could simply make money or were “cool,” but with MyRuck, I personally underwent challenges with my benefits and from there, I was able to identify a problem that was worth addressing. It is our goal to alleviate any confusion and create an easy-to-use tool that can be utilized nationwide. We are extremely proud of our development team and the investment we made in the initial product. It is coming together quickly and the support we have received is unanimously positive.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The future looks bright! We’re completing the finishing touches on developing our beta product to begin testing. This will be particularly exciting because at this stage we begin working closely with service members to refine our solution before our official launch. It will put myself and my business partner, Brad Clark, that much closer to creating a national solution for service members.
