Meet Yancy Berry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yancy Berry.

Yancy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got clean & sober in 1999 and that completely changed the trajectory of my life. I went from basically destitute to a functioning then thriving human being. I became a financial advisor in 2004, then a personal trainer in 2010, then a life coach in 2016. In the last nine years specifically I’ve been one of the top producing personal trainers in the history of Equinox, winning the Equinox Personal Training Lifetime Achievement Award this year. On the personal & spiritual development front, I’ve life coached many individuals & groups, including the weekly group I currently host & the seminar I led in June called Power & Peace. And the most important part is being a dad to my ten-year-old son, Gus!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Haha. Sorry to laugh but my entire life has been filled with difficulties to overcome. Many handed to me & many created myself. This year has personally been the hardest yet most fulfilling of my life. It started with the end of my marriage of 7 years but I used the tools that I teach others to walk through it & come out of the other side better than I went in (meditation, reading, working with others, therapy, working with my own life coach & AA sponsor, and more).

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m both a Personal Trainer at Equinox and a Certified Life Coach outside of Equinox. I specialize in helping busy executives be more productive by reducing stress and increasing emotional strength & capability. I’m most proud of my ability to overcome & thrive through difficulty & actually leverage problems to create opportunity. What sets me apart is the ACTUAL results I’ve had in myself & clients. Life coaches come from the heart & love to help others and that’s beautiful, but I’ve actually done the work in real life with real people.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Yes. My life coaches & AA sponsors have been a huge support, but the biggest push has come from my son, who provided the motivation to find a career that would provide for him & fulfill me. Leaving a legacy for him is something that I think about every day. And my clients are my teachers. I learn constantly through helping them & that’s how I get better.
