Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyd Barrett.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kyd. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was introduced to music at a young age and it helped me cope with difficult times growing up. At fifteen, I was gifted my first guitar and taught myself how to play. I eventually joined a music program in high school and fronted a couple of garage rock bands. After high school, I studied music production and worked on songwriting which led to the creation of Kyd Barrett.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Been a bit of a rocky start. Growing up in a home of addiction, violence and mental illness as well as dealing with societal and religious oppression of self-expression, artistic and creative freedom, individuality and free speech.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Kyd Barrett is a solo musical project that mixes elements of rock, hip-hop, dance, experimental and pop. My self-titled EP is now streaming on all platforms. I also look forward to working with and producing other artists as well!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Writing, performing, producing, arranging, mixing and mastering all of the tracks on my self-titled EP.
