Meet Joshua Cruz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Cruz.

Joshua, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started singing in church when I was a child, involved in the choirs and children’s programs. I then became obsessed with music in middle and high school years playing and performing at youth conferences, schools, churches and within my High School art program. I took a brief break from music my senior year in High School and Freshman year of college to try and figure out more of who I was. I began writing and recording my original music in my early 20s under the guidance of Trevor Ontiveros and Justin Colen. A small while after I put together a band of the best musicians in Tampa and started performing locally and nationally bringing my own brand of funk and style to the stage.

In 2018 the band and I were the house band for the NHL’s All-Star Game hosted in our hometown arena, playing to a crowd of over 15,000 people. At that point, I knew I had to try and make my own path and moved to Los Angeles at the beginning of this year. Since being here, I have worked on a sync project with an amazing producer for TV and film and have begun performing on the local stages. I am looking forward to growing my craft and audience more and more in this city.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a relatively smooth road in the sense that I have had amazing producers, collaborators and creators who are able to understand as well as execute my vision. I’ve had incredible men and women invest their time, energy and monetary resources to help propel me further and further than I could have possibly imagined. I also have an amazing family who has supported me and believed in my passion since the beginning. I am honestly truly blessed to say the least.

On the other hand, I have personally given every ounce of my energy, time, passion and resources to this dream. Struggles have come in the form of self-doubt and the often time common lack of patience and comparisons. But I know deep within my heart, I am on the correct path to a successful destiny and career.

Please tell us about your work.
Jay Z said it best “I’m not a businessman, I’m a business maaaan” and thats honestly how I feel. My music/artistry is the product and my presentation of it is it’s business card/reputation. I specialize in performing and writing pop songs for myself, others, TV, movies and more. I’m most proud of my dedication to excellence and putting my best foot forward with everything I take part of. What sets me apart is my resilience, my passion, my growth and my desire to do and be better on a daily basis.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Whenever my family would all get together for dinners, cookouts or holidays. I have such a large but loving family and even though we can drive each other crazy at times, there is so much love when we are all together.

I actually have two favorite memories. The second is when I knew that music was meant for me. I was 11 years of age and I performed a freestyle at a kids camp with me at the time kids pastor Steve Hogue. The lyrics were literally made up on the spot but all the kids and parents were screaming, clapping and going crazy. I knew right then and there I wanted this forever.
