Today we’d like to introduce you to Roshan Mirpuri.
Roshan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Panama City, Panama, and for most of my life I was highly encouraged to enter the business world like the rest of my family. After graduating from the International School of Panama, I studied at Bentley University where I majored in Management, Economics, and International Negotiations. I also have degrees from the London School of Economics and the Lorenzo de’ Medici Institute in Florence, Italy. Upon completing my studies, I worked in wholesale imports and exports for a few years. The work took me back and forth from Panama to China.
All of these experiences helped enrich me as a person, but the work I was doing was giving me absolutely no joy. Even though the work was good, I didn’t feel any motivation or excitement doing it. It was a pretty depressing time for me and I knew that I needed to make a change.
My whole life I had always had a fascination with film and storytelling. Up until then, I had thought that my encyclopedic knowledge on movies and filmmaking could be no more than a hobby. But I took the leap and moved to LA where I studied at the Los Angeles Film School. It was there that I met the people that would become part of my company and creative team. We formed the company in LA at first but then moved it to Oceanside where we found more potential.
I enjoy the work I do now. I get to apply my years of experience in sales and management, but this time in an industry that actually gives me happiness and excitement. I get to help my clients and collaborators create stories and translate them onto the screen.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has certainly been a fun road. Although I would not say it was smooth. We did encounter many obstacles, like any new business. But one of the biggest was operating within a very saturated market. In LA, there are many other companies that appeared to offer the same services, except most of them didn’t provide an affordable, one-stop shop like we do. But once we decided to shift the business to Oceanside, we found a lot more potential to grow, less competition, and a far better quality of customer.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fischer Baddison – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
My business is called Fischer Baddison. We specialize in creating high-quality video & photo content to promote growth and brand recognition at an affordable and competitive price. In other words, we make the videos and photos for other companies and brands to use in their promotion campaigns.
I would say that we are known for taking the time and effort to understand our clients’ values and vision in order to accurately represent them on the screen. A big part of what we do is speak and work with our clients consistently so that we can relay their brand’s style and message effectively to their target audiences.
I am proud to say that our company is comprised of several award-winning filmmakers. Every member is skilled in a particular area of the craft, whether it is camera operating, cinematography, editing, sales, and so on. Between us, we have decades of experience and we love finding more creative ways of translating our client’s message into something entertaining, engaging, and even informative.
One of the things that set us apart is that we don’t have to outsource or rent any gear at all. We have all of our own equipment and the qualified people to work them in-house. This helps us keep our costs low while maximizing our capacity to meet our client’s production needs.
I would also like to add that another person who deserves credit is Ryan Fitting, my main partner and collaborator. He helped me build this business from below the ground up. He is a gifted director and cinematographer in his own right. And without his discipline and eye for film, we would not be able to offer the same high quality of work that we are known for.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like the fact that it is so diverse and that it has so many wonderful opportunities to explore. It is a very exciting city to live in.
