Today we’d like to introduce you to Luka Bazulka.
About three years ago, Colin Kendrick (Pianist) found Luka (Lead Vocalist) singing at a warehouse party and decided to start a band focused around Luka’s story and voice. Joining members Daniel Zuker (Bassist), Justin Siegal (Drummer), and Chance Taylor (Guitarist) rounded out and formed the sound that is now Perta. Starting by playing the smallest venues, like The Attic on Sunset Boulevard, to headlining to the world-famous Troubadour, Perta commanded its audiences attention everywhere they played and grew their fanbase.
With elements of classic rock, funk, and pop – the band carved a new sound that got them signed to WME, and captured the support of Paper Magazine and Alec Baldwin with his podcast ‘Here’s the Thing’. They are well on their way to making history and poised to make their mark.
Has it been a smooth road?
There have certainly been obstacles. Some of our members have had to hold down as many as three jobs to finance the costs of living in LA alongside band/show expenses – this often made it rather difficult to find time to rehearse and write. Also, finding an affordable rehearsal space was/is quite difficult – we started in Colins childhood bedroom in Calabasas, and moved to his kitchen when we moved to Sherman Oaks.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Perta – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We love to put on a show that feels spectacular AND genuine. Everyone in this band has their strengths that complement one another. We’re very proud of how far we’ve come in such little time.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I really enjoy the diversity of cultures and talents. I’ve made a home here and have a family of artists that support one another and think critically about each others work. Coming from a small town, I like that you can find a quiet place when need be, but when its time to escape I can find a place to dance.
