Meet Jonathan Perez aka Nadidah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Perez aka Nadidah.

Jonathan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m a creative spirit born in the city of L.A. (June 5th 1988) I can remember playing with Lego’s as a kid and acting out different scenarios in my head. My parents have also told to me that I used to draw, cut, and then shape dinosaurs out of paper when I didn’t have any similar toys. I guess that in a way describes my creative nature. I love the idea of being crafty and using whatever materials are available while also playing with my imagination and going with the flow.

I didn’t really think about pursuing art until I came up with a drawing for a friend’s band called The Absynths. The idea of creating something very specific in my mind and seeing my intent come to life was very unique and when my friend appreciated the work, something just clicked.

I actually played music with my friend in the band from 2006 to 2018.

I’ve been through many different phases in my life. Both internally and externally. I’ve explored a number of different creative ventures including drawing, music, photography, film, writing, and even organizing creative events with local bands and artists. Each time, my experiences would help shape my creativity and in a way, each phase was therapeutic and reflective in its own respective expression.

My intent may be different with each piece that I create but in the end, I want to share the beauty of the world around us and create a sense of deep care, compassion, and wonder! To create and take part in nurturing the creative spirit while sharing my love for life and appreciating everything it has to offer.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not always been easy. Sometimes events and circumstances line up and life seems like a beautiful sense of synchronicity. Other times, everything feels like it’s falling apart and I don’t know what to do. Despite this, I like to think that everything has a reason. I try to understand why things happen and attempt to learn from these experience. Both good and bad. That in itself is not always easy but I’ve learned to realize it’s all a part of the cycle. Life has its own pace and it always seems to work itself out. I’m just riding the wave.

I have been very fortunate to have my families support as well as other nurturing relationships in my life and for that, I am eternally grateful.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As of right now, I’ve been working with my girlfriend and creative partner Alba Castro within creative photography under the name “Miel y Fuego.” We bought a camera together and have grown to explore our creativity and love for music with it. We usually attend musical events and enjoy capturing the performances. We later edit and play around with multiple effects to create a unique blend of digital artwork. We have also worked with a few other people and continue to experiment while learning about our craft and ourselves.

It’s been a beautiful adventure and one I hope to keep exploring with her!
