So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The development of my growth in the beauty industry happened organically. It began with friends asking for beauty advice regularly. I enjoyed it so much I decided to become a freelance makeup artist, leading me to larger companies that taught me the benefits of being a business owner. I woke up one day and realized, “What the hell am I doing with my life?” I decided to quit my unfulfilling job and open my own studio. BOY! I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner. I guess that’s when the famous, “It wasn’t the right time” quote fits right in.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Is it ever a smooth road? Really, if a business owner answered yes, I need their contact information. Haha. I think that’s what keeps many from taking the “risk” of owning their own business. You go into it knowing you won’t have the security of a “9-5”, and that you will indeed take work home with you every night. Reflecting, where I have the most difficulty is staying creative. I constantly have to challenge myself with staying relevant, being eco-friendly, and staying true to my philosophy. These can all be very difficult when social media apps have weekly trends, that’s when self-doubt seeps in.
Please tell us about Wax N Blush.
My studio is nestled in Downtown Long Beach. I’m known for Eyebrow Makeover’s. It’s not your average eyebrow wax, it’s beyond that. This is where I listen to my clients WANTS, I walk them through their NEEDS and I teach them about how we will achieve their desired RESULTS. The key is that clients leave feeling heard and excited about their eyebrow journey. Wax N Blush offers: full body waxing, makeup services and lash lifts. What I’m most proud of is our cruelty-free philosophy. The studio provides a selection of vegan waxes and all of the products we sell are vegan and female-founded.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Oh man! You’re almost asking me if I’d go back in time. I don’t think I’d necessarily go back in time, BUT, I do think I would have started sooner. Yet, the universe always has its own plan! So, I guess that’s a no.
