Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Grimes Freedman.
Lindsay, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Shortly before our first wedding anniversary, my husband was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He had to adopt a new way of eating to avoid spiking his blood sugars. I searched for recipes online that fit within his newfound dietary needs but was disappointed they were kind of boring and bland. I began to experiment with our meals a bit and sharing my recipes on thetoastedpinenut.com as a resource for other people looking for a fun recipe to feed their families.
Has it been a smooth road?
One of the unspoken truths of entrepreneurship is there are constant waves of highs and lows. One week, you may be in a groove, you are exploding with creativity and ideas, and reaching major milestones. The next thing, you may feel like your wheels are spinning and you’re not even inching closer to your goals. Don’t lose sight of the forest through the trees. When you’re in those moments where things are clicking and feeling good, relish in them. Soak them in and fill that cup. When you’re feeling burnt out and things aren’t coming together, remind yourself that even on the days when you just need a break, that break is part of the ride. Waves come and go. Even on the days when you don’t feel like you’re moving forward, you are.
When you’re just starting out – the most important thing I can say, ever is… just start. Don’t wait until you have the right camera or the right backdrop. Don’t wait until you can afford to buy the gear you feel you need. Just start. You only learn by doing. You only get better and hone your craft by doing. So. Just. Start.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Instagram has been my favorite place to find my people! As a blogger, so much of what I do is solo. It’s fun to find camaraderie with fellow bloggers who can relate to your every day and give you insight into areas where you have questions. I have found the best guidance among my peers. Find a platform where you’re most comfortable connecting with people and build relationships with not only your readers but the fellow entrepreneurs around you.
