Meet Giovanna Alexsandra of Sunless Glow 2 Go

Today we’d like to introduce you to Giovanna Alexsandra.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
From the age of four, I was always dancing – ballet, tap, and hip-hop. I soon began to compete in dance competitions at my local studio. As I grew older, I became more and more focused on maintaining clear and healthy skin, especially from sweating and being in the sun with heavy makeup.

While attending college, I was working part-time at a med spa that offered spray tanning, and I would see numerous people coming in with sun damage to their skin. A few years later, my mom became ill and was unable to leave her home. This prompted me to start my mobile spray tanning business, so I could offer clients the same spray tanning services available in the medspa, but in the comfort and convenience of their own home. I wanted to be able to offer a safer and healthier way for a natural glow while educating my friends and clients about harmful UV rays and the damage they cause. Word soon spread, and in only a few months I had built up a strong recurring client base around the West Side and throughout LA. I soon saw this as an opportunity to grow my business, hire other woman, and train them under me to be able to reach clients further away. My clients range from moms and professionals to athletes, models, and big-name celebrities, and I customize each tan specifically to the client’s skin type.

Last year I developed and launched my own shimmer brush (available in gold and bronze) that clients can add on after their tan for a healthy bronzed glow. It’s ideal for events and appearances, as well as everyday use. This concept was born after I continued to see a growing number of my clients frustrated with many liquid bronzers available, that were sticky to-the-touch, and didn’t last long. After launching my Shimmer Brushers (GLOW by Gio) at the start of last year, they’ve been featured on KTLA as part of the Emmy’s ‘What’s Hot”, as well as being available in a number of beauty salons around Los Angeles, and on my website.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the challenges has always been LA traffic during peak times, especially when a client is across the other side of town. Even at times when it might take over an hour to get to them, I would always stay committed to try to make it to them at their chosen time. By doing so, it allowed me to build a strong and loyal clientele base through my mobile tanning business (Sunless Glow 2 Go). Word of mouth was my biggest marketing tool, and I was quick to become one of the top search results in LA for mobile tanning.

Sunless Glow 2 Go – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I pride myself on offering the very best spray tan at a price point that is affordable for all. First-time clients get a discount, and practically everyone then returns as a regular customer. I really care about the aftercare of my client’s tans and the importance of maintaining a healthy skincare regiment. I pride myself of keeping up-to-date on the latest within the industry, which often means providing samples of new and innovate products to my clients.

What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
I’ve had a few cases of ‘bad luck’ when I had been driving across town to spray a client and moments before arriving, they canceled (sometimes for valid reasons). It wasn’t only the time wasted driving, but in most cases during peak hours, it was also knowing another person had wanted to book that time. There’s been plenty of good luck cases from my work, mostly through connections and opportunities from some truly amazing people, as well as being able to leave knowing my clients have a smile on their faces (and a great tan all over).
