Today we’d like to introduce you to B. Alyssa Trofort.
Thanks for sharing your story with us, B. Alyssa. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
Art has been in my life for as long as I could remember, mainly because of my older cousins. Before photography, I use to draw and paint, and in high school was when I became more serious about my craft behind a lens. When it came time to decide what I wanted to major in for college, my photography teacher advised me that if I kept working hard that I could become a great photographer and make a career out of it. Coming from a Caribbean background, that wasn’t the easiest discussion to have with my family, but I assured them that with hard work and faith, my camera would take me places I never imagined. So unlike most, I went the technical route and attended Virginia Commonwealth University, where I received my bachelor of fine arts in 2013. During my college career, I participated in numerous internships and assisting positions, which provided me with the opportunity of learning more about the photography field and all the possibilities that I had access to. After graduating, I moved to Atlanta, GA, where I began interning and assisting. I always believed that to be the best, you must remain a student and to place yourself in situations where you can learn from the best. In 2015 I decided to take another leap of faith and decided that I wanted to shoot full time. A few years later, I decided to face another fear by moving to LA, and it has definitely been a journey that has stretched me personally and professionally. Above all, it’s been a blessing to have a career where you have the opportunity to do what you love every single day.
Has it been a smooth road?
This road has definitely not been smooth, but hey, nothing in life comes easy. From my college career to my professional career, there have been many challenges along the road, but I have used each of them as a building block and a learning tool. This road has felt like a roller coaster, from the highs to the lows, to wondering WHY did I decide to make this decision, but through it all, it has definitely been worth the ride. I have learned so much about myself in this process, realizing that everything happens for a reason and what is meant to be will be! I’m a firm believer that what God has for me no one can take it, so whenever I don’t get a job, or something falls through, I try to always have a positive outlook on the situation. I made this decision to follow my heart and my passion, and I knew for sure that it wasn’t going to be easy. I also know that the people I work with, and the work that I create is bigger than me, my journey is bigger than me, and I am motivated by that every day!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the B. Alyssa Trofort Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
My purpose in life is to help people to strive to be their best selves, and my work is a vessel for that. Whether it’s working with entrepreneurs and helping them build content for their brand, or working with personal trainers/athletes that use fitness as a tool to help and motivate others, my camera is a tool to support, encourage, and motivate others. I am primarily known for my sports/fitness and athletic work, but I love working with passionate people in general. I am most proud of watching the growth of my client’s businesses, and I am so grateful that my work has been apart of the journey.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Growing up, I was a shy, creative, and athletic child. I was always outside playing basketball with the boys (hence why I was drawn to sports photography, or I was somewhere drawing in my sketchbook.
