Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Berman.
Steven, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started in real estate building and development when I was 18 years old. I then build my first 6,000 square foot spec home at the age of 21. I went on to build many very large custom homes, up to 20,000 square feet in Malibu, Calabasas and the San Fernando Valley. I developed a world-class 4 diamond one of a kind hotel in Sedona Arizona called the Adobe Grand Villas. I currently own properties in California, Arizona, and Miami.
I have recently embarked on a new venture to create a completely new fitness product and fitness program using a new training technique we are calling Off-Balance Leverage Training called the EdgeCross-X. I created the EdgeCross-X with my youngest son Kyle so it has been amazing working and developing this product together as a team. The EdgeCross-X is rapidly being accepted by the fitness industry as being one of the hottest new fitness products and in a very short amount of time. Muscle and Fitness magazine calling it the 10 min. fitness miracle and it is now being used in the IronMan elite athlete gym for Olympic level athlete training and will also be featured in IronMan magazine next month.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been anything but smooth, My first spec home was built in the late ’80s when the market was very hot but the huge recession hit right before I completed building the home and I was forced to reduce the price $100K per week in order to try to sell the property. Luckily I broke even on the property but it was a huge disappointment not making any profit. During the recession, I was forced to put my building dreams on hold so I started a furniture manufacturing business. The business went well and sustained me through the crash until the market ca back and I was able to start building in Malibu, CA.
I married at 23 and had my first child at 25 and then had twins when I was 28 years old. It was very difficult to run a business with three small children. I went through a messy divorce which again disrupted my business as I was living in Arizona at the time and ended up moving back to California again to be with my children, again leaving the business I had started in Arizona. This was a very tough time, but I started again and built a strong real estate business in California and I am now venturing into a completely new space in the fitness industry and we are really starting to take off with our product the EdgeCross-X fitness system.
EdgeCross-X – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I have always been very creative in my building practices and I am known for building very unique, one of a kind properties. I have been involved in real estate and development from the age of 18 and have always been very passionate about creating unique properties. Now I have created a completely new way to exercise that use bodyweight, balance and leverage to force the user to have to hold balancing positions and engages every muscle in the body so you will get a complete, well-rounded workout in a very short amount of time. I am not only creating a product but I am creating a completely new fitness system and unique workout program and the best thing is that the system is fully portable so it can be taken everywhere so you can get a complete full-body workout anytime, anywhere.
The thing that sets me apart is that I am always willing to change and adapt to different situations and I try to think many steps ahead and create things that are totally unique and cutting edge.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I have quite a few proud moments, first being my children and the fact that they are involved with creating and running the EdgeCross-X business with me. My sone Kyle has helped me create the EdgeCross-X fitness system and my oldest som Ryan has just graduated college with his accounting degree and is now the CFO for the company. My other son Cody and my wife Marcela are handleing sales and marketing so it is a family business which makes me very proud as a father.
The next being the creation of my Malibu properties which are amazing. I would say that the proudest moment in my building career was completing our 1 of a kind, completely custom themed hotel in Sedona Arizona called the Adobe Grand Villas which has received numerous awards including being called one of the top 25 boutique hotels in the world and one of the top 10 romantic destinations in America. The hotel has sustained a AAA 5 diamond rating since its opening in 2004 and is one of the only boutique hotels that were eligible to have a five diamond rating. This is a huge honor within the industry.
Now I am very proud of my new venture the EdgeCross-X which is taking the fitness world by storm and has been called the 10-minute miracle by Muscle and Fitness Magazine and is being featured in IronMan Magazine and also being used in the IronMan elite athlete gym to train Olympic level athletes.
