Check out Kimberly Douglas’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Douglas.

Kimberly, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My dream has always been to get signed to a modeling agency and be on the cover of Wonderland Magazine. When I started seriously looking into building my portfolio I realized I needed to do test shoots with photographers to get some practice in, but then I found out how expensive photographers can get, at the time I was in college, commuting back and forth between there and home and didn’t have money to pay a photographer, so I started reaching out to photographers on Instagram to see if they wanted to collaborate. I would get no response, or if I did get a response, the photographer would go MIA when I was trying to lock down a date. So I started shooting myself with my iPhone, I started creating my own sets to show that I could be editorial and I grew from there. Last summer, I bought a camera and started creating even more elaborate shoots almost every day. I don’t have a prop budget or money to rent a space, so I create my shoots in rooms all around the house with stuff I find. I’ve created a shoot out of aluminum foil, plastic, bed sheets, curtains, blankets, and a picture frame, to name a few.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I create sets on little to budgets in and around my parent’s house (I still live at home aha) My mom has always told me sometimes you have to take a different path to get to where you want to be, and that’s what I’m on right now. I create these DIY sets because I want to show people that you don’t need thousands of dollars to make something dope. I want to show people that there is more than one way to get to where you want to be, and sometimes the unconventional way is your right way. I hope to inspire people to go after their dreams and persevere and not give up because it seems like it has gotten too difficult.

How can artists connect with other artists?
Definitely to just reach out
