Today we’d like to introduce you to Kane Acosta.
Kane, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am 20 years old and have been crafting and recording my own music since the golden age of eight years old. I had written so many songs that I needed an outlet to relieve my brain. That is when I met this kid named TJ Wee in early October of 2018. From there, we immediately became great friends and he has helped me craft my ideas into music for the world to hear.
It started with my debut project EP Voodoo Blu which had a hit song called IRIS that really got the ball rolling. By March of 2019, I had already made seven songs with him and I wanted to do an album, yet we only had like five weeks to make and well. It happened.
I went into terminator mode. Spent every single day crafting this album with my producer Taejoon Wee (TJ’s full name). After countless 10+ hour sessions… Jade was born. What’s interesting to note is that most of these songs were not previously written. I kind of wrote the album as we went and by song ten the whole thing came together… crazy. The challenge was keeping sanity. But I found many successes along the way, such as collaborating, meeting new musicians, and building a project better than anything else I have released thus far.
JADE IS A FEELING. As in Voodoo blu was a feeling as well. A voodoo doll feeling that comes in an out, unannounced, and creates a blue depressing vibe. Jade is interesting because in my current stage of life, I have outgrown the voodoo blu phase. I have moved into my Jade phase. Jade represents a color of both blue, yellow, and violet. It’s a happy and sad context with some feelings of growth and revenge. The violet plays into the more eerie tones of the yellow. Though happiness is there, sinister and sad feelings chase right behind it. Jade is another satire on life but from a more balanced perspective. But who knows, Voodoo Blu might be hiding right around the corner… I am really interested to see how I grow as a person and what phase comes off of Jade. But then again, after telling you this, it’s up to your own interpretation, and it might not mean anything to Jade.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has actually been a really smooth road. Like it had to have been just paved or something. Like some slight bumps here and there, but that’s a given on any road. No major potholes so far. The main struggle has been keeping my ADHD brain occupied. I always have to be doing 1700 things at once, and when I am not able to make music or do anything I get very anxious and not happy.
Also being a perfectionist does not help either, hence I want to produce the absolute best music possible for my fans. There is a lot of heavy context in my lyrics and I really want that to translate over to my fans. By creating very diverse and complex music that grabs the listeners ears, really helps keep the lyrics embodied in the person. Trying to make the best music possible consistently are the only trouble bumps I have occurred. Besides showing up to my first show with a snare drum. (like the most important drum to have in your drumset).
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I specialize in music that relates to human existence as to what we do and who we are and everything in between. The simple nuances in life that can destroy our day. To long presses of sadness. Overwhelming joy. Where do all of our feelings differ from and come from? I mean there is only so much earth for us to live on, and at some point regardless of how diverse we are as humans, universal paths will be crossed and universal ideas will be held in all of us the same. Forgetting that causes a lot of strife as people can feel lonely. I’m trying to write music that plays from my own personal experiences and relates to the listener to show them they are not alone.
I was in a rough place for a long time and that’s where ashes to amber was born. I was ash burnt down. Through time my ash turned to amber and at least till today, I feel enlightened. Though all of that could change tomorrow. Who knows life is crazy. As long as people genuinely feel emotion and love and use my music to build themselves. That is my business platform.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is what you make of it and it is super specific for each niche you dive into. For example with music. Universally my goal if money didn’t exist would be to bring joy and purpose to people who need it. As well as make enough dough to pay the bills and eat. But for success in life, be happy. If you are poor, and in bad health, yet happy. You did something right. You are eons more successful than the man with a million and a broken insecure background. Find yourself before you find other people, and you will live happily. Success is defined by what you make out of the curveballs given to you in life.
