Meet Catherine Auman of Tantric Dating in Hollywood, West LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Auman.

Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. You can include as little or as much detail as you’d like.
Six years ago, I decided to crack the dating code. I was well aware that I was not the right age or did I have the right look, nor did I have the right set of acceptable hobbies to make me a hit on Tinder or Hinge. I just couldn’t figure out how to reconcile being a “spiritual person” in the conventional dating world.

I’d previously lived for a year at an ashram in India which was a full-time immersion in tantra and meditation. I kept reflecting back to my experience there as a contrast to the Western dating world. For 3 ½ years I toiled at dating “hard labor,” and then finally met the love of my life. We’re both always saying, “I didn’t know it could be this good.”

People started asking me how I did it. They told me my advice was far beyond anything they were getting from conventional sources. I wrote the book Tantric Dating: Bringing Love and Awareness to the Dating Process and started a monthly workshop by that name. The approach is so novel, so different from anything else, and people are finding love. The workshop is growing by leaps and bounds, becoming the host’s most popular offering.

I feel strongly that people can’t find love because of the way we’re going about it. They assume it’s something wrong with them or with the other person, but nothing’s wrong with the people. I learned that in tantra. It’s the conventional mindset that is asking us to find love by becoming increasingly unloving towards each other; it’s not working.

Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all. I’d had a long series of not-very-good relationships, including two failed marriages. So I decided to do whatever it took, including going back to therapy and hiring a dating coach.

I joined five online dating sites and about 30 Meetups. I went on over 150 first dates, meeting 2-3 guys a week. Out of that there were the second dates, thirds, the little times when for a few months or so it seemed like something was happening. I got shot down so many times I developed a whole new outlook on the concepts of “rejection” and “ghosting” which are in my book.

It was a constant process of remembering my motivation, staying in the game, not giving up and choosing to just hang out with my girlfriends. I had to cultivate an attitude of learning, growing, studying and getting help.

Tell us about your business/company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
Tantric Dating is the name of my monthly workshops, my coaching practice, and book. I help singles and couples expand and cultivate their relationships with tantric practices and skills. People who do yoga and meditate seem to be especially drawn to my approach and work.

I’ve been asked to speak on podcasts and radio shows, at psychedelic events, for matchmaking services, and have presented 3 times at Pickup Artist conventions. The world, it seems, is hungry to find love.

In my private practice as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for over 20 years, I’ve been known for my specialty in spiritual psychology. It’s great to now have added dating coaching from a spiritual perspective.

What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
I’m drawn to share more about tantra, and to work together with my partner. We have an all-day tantra workshop scheduled for later this year, and have already been on the road with Tantric Dating. Why not raise the level of love and awareness worldwide?
