Meet Nadia Sessen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Sessen.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nadia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Thank you, I feel privileged to share some of my story. There have been so many pieces of this journey that it’s hard to know where to begin, so I guess I’ll start with little Nadia who was always drawing and wanted to be a cartoonist. She then became a teenager who wanted to be a video game concept designer. She studied in commercial arts, then grew into songwriting, and found yoga and healing along the way. Leaping from one potential ‘career path’ to another, always feeling caged by any single career choice; until finally realizing that each outlet is a branch of her Soul. Now as the woman I have come to be, I feel that I am here to answer a Calling, much more than a career. With music at the forefront, I have spent the last 10 years writing and producing, yet I couldn’t seem to cross the threshold of releasing anything until meeting a series of the right people. One of these being my Beloved man and partner, a radically gifted musician and Soul who shares a complimentary way of Life to mine. He has helped me to bloom. We have been in creation and co-production together for the last two years and have finally begun to share my music with the world. I believe that some people are simply ’Ta’veren,’ I say. The word originates from the fantasy series ‘The Wheel of Time’, meaning, basically, ‘those whose destiny is woven with ours in order to fulfill a great purpose’.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a funky road. Soulful, bouncy and bumpy. Earth can be crazy sometimes, so can being human. We can forget who we are, and what we have to give daily. We become insecure, scared and unsure. We stop ourselves from being touched by life by trying to protect and perfect everything, throwing away joy and the whole purpose of creation. We are told we have to learn business in a certain way that denies us of our Wholeness, or that beauty has a certain criteria, when Beauty is actually deeply multi-dimensional.

I often cannot keep up with the notions or pacing of this civilization. And so I am drawn inwards or into Nature, so I may reunite with what I am. There, I remember with every cell of my being, that there is divine order. I can feel Whole again, and return to share myself more fully. I do believe that this choice to be true to myself is exactly what will grow my business to be as fruitful as the Tree of Life.

I often feel carried and any stretches of uncertainty are merely forcing me to cultivate Faith and compassion.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I play live music for Beautiful events like yoga classes, ceremonies and dance meditations; singing my songs woven into free-flowing vocal soundscapes; accompanied by my harp-like ukulele playing, and powerful, earthy drumming and chanting. We go on quite a journey. I am humbled and empowered to be a vessel for the forces that stream through me when I sing and play. I get to experience the gratitude of people who are moved, sometimes to tears. I believe the alchemical inner work that I do creates a reaction in the experiencer, giving them access to more of themselves. People leave in a transformed state being reminded of their own divinity.

Right this moment, I am working with a wonderful film and music producer (he is definitely ’Ta’veren’ too). We are creating a beat based soundtrack for a fantastic film project. This producer has a particular appreciation for my beat making skills, which makes me feel very cool. I am just stepping into my next evolution, like a Pokemon. With my new drumming powers, more fiery and free. More earthy and sensual. More me.

And I also really really really want to write and sing for Disney Animation Films. I just need to say that, I say it every chance I get. I just know I’m meant to do it. I feel a surge of courage and boundless Love when I watch those movies. The characters live by principles that make sense to me. They blow past the norms they are told to live by and follow their hearts relentlessly, even if they have to go through immense tests of Faith and super scary challenges to fulfill their destiny.

Sequentially, my childhood dreams of being a visual artist are returning full circle as I begin to draw and paint more seriously again. I painted the cover for my most recent album ‘Grand Love’ and am now doing personalized commission paintings. I work with the individual to find what kind of painting will suit their needs, to enhance them and their space, on a level that meets much more than the eye.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
What can I say, I am a believer in destiny and how any given individual will align with the right place and time. I do feel there is an openness and popularity on the west coast to yoga and spirituality. So yes, it can be a great place for that type of business. Since I want to expand on music for movies, it is also electrifying that Hollywood is nearby. You can concretely connect with people who are doing grand things! I personally allow myself to be moved by the currents of life, and faithfully follow Intuitive calls from deep within rather than a logical life plan. Wherever I may be carried, I am a fountain of Love that will continue to pour myself into this life; To quench my own thirst—and that of what I feel, is a very thirsty world.
