Today we’d like to introduce you to Breann Cook.
Breann, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I can definitely say my journey has been a whirlwind. As most young adults finishing college and trying to figure out life. I was finishing my degree in Merchandise Marketing from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising with a newborn daughter. While pregnant, I had already taken the leap into entrepreneurship. With my first business being an e-commerce fashion brand back in 2009 the internet was advanced, but nothing like it is today along with social media. So I had to come up with creative ways to market my business and drive traffic to my website. In June 2009, I hosted my first trunk show/pop-up shop in the back conference room of my Mom’s office. I turned it into a mini boutique for the weekend with the help of my fiance, family, and close friends. I marketed on different message boards, women that I knew, malls and anywhere that I pretty much knew my audience shopped. The first day I practically sold out and barely had any merchandise for the second day.
That day another match was sparked. I started participating in more events, building my email list as well as curating more events which lead to more collaborations and relationships being built. In 2014 I came up with this great idea, so I reach out and collaborated with a fashion blogger on an event showcasing other women entrepreneurs, a small panel discussion, beauty activations and more. From there, I started receiving a big response of people reaching out for advice regarding business, resources, and more. So at the end of 2015, I took the leap of faith to separate the e-commerce and events side of the business and Ambition Is The New Pink was formed, but as I was building that end of the business literally the same month, I found out I was pregnant with my son.
So I kept building the brand and working behind the scenes with other businesses to continue to build my relationships. While also trying my best to balance my family and be great partner and mother to my children.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My journey has been FULL of many challenges, but anything worth achieving is worth sacrifice and fighting for, one of my BIGGEST challenges that I am experience currently when it comes to my business is building a team. Like a solid team that understands your vision and is willing to put in the work with you to make it happen. The opportunities have been coming and I am extremely grateful, but this year I have had to be completely honest with myself of the full capacity I am able to operate in business wise without that support as well with having a family to prevent myself from burning out. I had to learn that I can’t continue to pour from an empty cup.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ambition Is The New Pink – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Ambition Is The New Pink is a creative boutique catering to current and aspiring women of color entrepreneurs that are making ish happen. Providing them with inspirational and informative content to live their best lives whether single or married with or without children. We also curate experiences for women of color by women of color to build sisterhood and community. As well as carrying merchandise that are expressions of the ambitious woman mindset.
We are most known for our experiences, being able to curate spaces for women, by women, featuring dope women brands. Our most popular event is our Social Suite series which we host in the Summer (Summer Time Fine Social Suite) and sometimes holiday season (Holiday Slay Social Suite). It’s the ultimate pop-up shopping and beauty experience of collective woman-owned brands, creatives, influencers and activities to empower and network.
I am most proud of the relationships that have been cultivated through Ambition Is The New Pink from women coming to events genuinely connecting, building, doing business and supporting each other after. It’s a beautiful sight to see! I am also proud of the relationships that we have been able to build personally with other businesses and brands that have continued to open more doors mutually for both parties.
What sets us apart is my vision of having the ability to dream it, create it, and execute it. Having thought out concepts and being authentic with our audience. It shows in the details and how we interact with others. I strongly believe in actions speak louder than words. Focusing on my vision and path while always leaving the door open to bring others along. Knowing myself, the vision for Ambition Is The New Pink, and being able to sincerely show love to others in a world today where being popular is more important than being true to self. There’s so many women empowerment brunches and events for likes, but aren’t truly trying to build with others.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
As we are preparing for relaunch we are gearing up to showcase an amazing YouTube series called The Glamorous Grind on our Ambitious TV YouTube channel showcasing women of color entrepreneurs behind the scenes and what it really takes for them to make it happen daily. As we know in today’s times with social media everyone gets to see the glamorous result, but rarely do we get to see the grind of how it all happens and comes together. Along with the series we’re rolling out our Glamorous Grind mixtape which is the sound of the series and inspiration.
We have a few more things in the works as well that we can’t speak too much about. But I can say for sure be on the lookout and follow the journey.
