Meet Blaq Pages, DJ & Music Producer from Downtown LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blaq Pages.

Please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I moved to Los Angeles, California from Ghana when I was 16 years old. I started DJing my senior year in High School but was not sure if that was the career path I wanted to take. I went on to college, played the on and off campus events. In college, I figured this is what I wanted to do so I took a semester off to figure out if thats the career path I wanted for myself. I dropped out of college to follow my dreams as DJ and Music Producer. Coming from an African Home, my parents did not approve it. They rather, I become a Doctor, Civil Engineer or something of that sort. I always said to myself, ” You are in LA so make the best of your situation. In 2014, I moved to Dickinson, North Dakota to work, save money and focus on my craft. I have always been passionate about representing Africa and playing African music to the world.

When I moved back to LA, I connected with a club manager, Sire who runs Los Globos. He advised and directed me into the right direction of how to approach things in life. That conversation changed my life. I decided to focus on exposing LA and the world to African Music especial Afrobeats, AfroHouse, GQOM, Highlife, Amapiano, Soukous and many more especially my sound as a DJ & Producer called TRYBVL (Tribal). By doing that, I started a monthly African Dance Party, Afro GoGo (The African Fiesta) to bring people together and expose the culture. Later on started curating more events and festivals such Africa Day Fest, Afrobashment, TRYBVL and R3WIND Day party for the African Diaspora and people who love the culture. So today, here I am in Los Angeles paving the way for the next generation.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has been a rough road. My struggles along the way was figuring it out how to be different but relevant as well. Another struggle, making an ends meet as DJ and Music Producer.
