Meet Aaron Swenson of Swenson Boxing in South Bay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Swenson.

Aaron, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started Karate when I was 5 years old. My Father was a black Belt and a former Amateur Boxer. I trained in various Martial Arts throughout my childhood, and when I was a teenager I began full contact Kickboxing. After winning a National Title, I earned a spot on the USA National Kickboxing and traveled internationally competing against some of the best Amateur Kickboxers in the world. After 32 Amateur fights, I decided to travel to Thailand to learn more about Muay Thai, and I had my first Professional Muay Thai fight shortly after. My most recent fight was on the undercard of Glory Kickboxing in Chicago in 2014.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Kickboxing might be one of the most grim and physically taxing sports in the world. I’ve suffered many broken bones, concussions, and a lot of discomfort preparing for fights. Beyond that, Kickboxing doesn’t pay very well (if anything at all.) So I have been teaching/training other people full time while trying to maintain my own training regiment simultaneously. It’s been a long hard road, but now that I am a retired fighter, I have a lot more energy and enthusiasm to train others.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in teaching Boxing/Kickboxing in a fitness format. I am known for my pad work and my ability to make the sessions fun and engaging while maintaining the authenticity of the arts. I have traveled all over the world fighting, and training with world class coaches, taking bits and pieces from all of them, to create my own system.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a bit rebellious! Competing gave me the structure and discipline that I needed to get my shit together (for lack of a better word).
