Today we’d like to introduce you to Marawa Wamp.
Marawa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I moved out to LA in 2016 – I am Australian but had been based in London for a few years – so now I bounce between LA and London. I run an online shop for skaters and hula hoopers, specializing in comfortable clothing made locally and with recycled fabrics where possible – I LOVE getting stuff made in LA as downtown has such an amazing history of garment manufacturing and there is way more variety and options than there are in Australia!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s hard moving to a new city – and LA I find especially hard, lots of driving, everyone is busy – all the time. But little by little I have found amazing spots – that’s what everyone says about LA – it takes FOREVER to let you in – but when it does – its magic.
What else should our readers know?
I have a bunch of world records for hula hooping – and rollerskating in high heeled skates – so that’s what I love doing – but it was always hard to find clothes that fit right – shorts that don’t leave half your butt hanging out seemed to not exist – cotton lycra that would survive more than five washes didn’t exist – so that’s why I started making my own stuff – made to fit, made to last, made local and made to move in! I love hearing from other skaters and hoopers and dancers how much they love their paradise outfits as its the same reason I feel happy when I wear it. We also do up to 3XL in most styles too.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Breaking the world record for most hoops spun, 200. Oh and when Usher came to my rollerdisco party last week that I host – that was great!
