Today we’d like to introduce you to Shane (Shine) Rilling.
Thought leader, world bridger, teacher, healer, musician, and visionary. Shine has become a master of flow state, human transformation, and life force energy through 33 years of study and practice. He is the founder and CEO of World Peace Tribe Inc., School of the Peaceful Ninja, The Peace Circle Center for World Peace in Nicaragua, Shining Lion Music. Shine is also the inventor of the paradigm-shifting game, Peace Sticks.
Shine’s love of surfing in combination with his studies of the movement, healing, and energy traditions of indigenous world cultures has led him on a life-long learning journey. He has studied the traditions of Taoism, South American, African and Native American Nations. He has practiced Munay Ki, Chi Gung and Tai Chi sword with Chinese Martial Arts Grand Master Zhou, and trained with the International Council of Indigenous Grandmothers. Shine has studied nutrition, positive thinking, stress relief techniques, group dynamics, and ways peace.
Shine chose to major in Biology due to his desire to help bridge humanity with the natural world. Growing up, he had incredible friendships and communication with his dogs. He felt that many of the problems faced by humanity are due to a sense of separation and/or superiority to nature. He was deeply influenced by Native American teachings, where animals are thought of as kin and we are taught to care for nature. Shine’s personal mission is to foster the human connection and love for nature and animals. He aspires to accomplish this through writing, film, and teaching. In 2001, Shine graduated Magna Cum Laude from the honors program at the University of San Diego with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and three additional Minors in Psychology, Philosophy, and Spanish.
Just prior to graduation, he experienced a life-changing event in Ojai, California. Two Polish Elders performed an energy healing ceremony on his younger sister, who had been extremely sick with an undiagnosed illness for one year. This initiated the beginning of her recovery and simultaneously catalyzed Shine into a new field of possibility. He set out on a quest to learn from the ancient lineages of indigenous world cultures about movement practices, healing, and shamanism. He has traveled to over 13 countries, studied five languages, and trained with masters, elders, and leading experts of human healing and spiritual evolution. Shine is fluent in both English and Spanish, proficient in French and functional in Portuguese and Indonesian. Shine is an instructor of Yoga, Meditation, Chi Gung, Energy Healing, Sound Therapy, Adventure Therapy, and Indigenous Ceremony. He is a Holistic Life Coach and Therapist, with extensive mastery in energy healing, family, communication, life purpose, nutrition, and optimal human performance. Shine leads World Peace Ceremonies, teacher, and transformational retreats both domestically and internationally. He has worked in the fields of Rehabilitation, corporate team building, professional athletic cross training, At-Risk Youth programs, and public/private education. He has guided group therapy in several top rehabilitation centers and is an ordained minister in the Universal Life Church.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
In 2015, I was diagnosed with spinal meningitis and given a %17 chance to live. I was unconscious for three days. When I came back, I was in a semi-dream state where I was seeing the spirits and energy of plants and lots of children, that seemed to be lost, suffering and many seemed to be indigenous. I also had a constant ringing in my ears, which was turning into music. As I looked into the mirror and realized that I had more life to live on this planet, I knew that it was my life purpose to share music, earth wisdom, and Peace Sticks to help the future generations of all children and all species.
Within a few months, I began recording the One Love Vibration album which weaved together the indigenous peace teachings of cultures from around with the music that was channeling through me.
I then returned to Nicaragua and began surfing again and creating with the local families, growing our Peace Center and handcrafting Peace Sticks and Peace Bracelets.
This experience allowed me to feel and see a much deeper purpose for my life as a father of my two children and as a father and caretaker for all children and all species on earth.
Before every creative session from recording music, to meeting with our team, to doing a peace ceremony, I ask that the source of life comes through me as a clear channel to bring the highest vibrations of love light and peace for all life on earth.
Please tell us about World Peace Tribe.
WorldPeaceTribe Inc. is a canopy organization comprised of five sub-branches: Peace Sticks, School of the Peaceful Ninja, World Re-leaf, The Peace Circle Center for World Peace, and Shining Lion Music.
Mission: Lead and document an international tour, where we share Peace Ceremonies, teach the practice of Peace Sticks, perform Shining Lion concerts and establish Peace Centers.
Background & History of Peace Sticks:
Peace Sticks was created by Shine and Evan Rilling while hiking in the Berkley forests when they picked up sticks and began to throw them between each other. During this play, they realized they entered into a powerful, transformative flow state of the present, peak-performance consciousness, and synergistic connection.
What is Peace Sticks? Peace Sticks is an interpersonal practice of throwing and catching sticks, which activates the human life force; embodying the energies of Yoga, Chi Gung, Martial Arts, Tribal Dance, Music, and Ceremony.
Vision: Shift human consciousness, evolve our way of life and create a thriving, peaceful future on planet Earth. Playing Peace Sticks creates the opportunity for a human being to experience these following key transformations:
1. Anxiety to flow state
2. Competition to collaboration
3. Separation to community
The Peace Sticks Ceremony is an experience which allows for an embodiment of these three energies, and activation of the innate human connection to nature, the self, and to each other. During the World Peace Ceremony, tribal ways of connecting to spiritual energy are integrated. This consists of the circle, drumming, prayer, talking sticks, eye-gazing, sound healing, authentic communication, and compassionate kindness, to create a chi-field and radiate peace in an expanding circle. Practitioners give and receive beneficial healing energy which inspires gratitude, harnesses the power of forgiveness and heals communities. Since inception Peace Sticks has been taught to thousands of people, while continually evolving the art and the Peace Ceremony. Peace Sticks ceremonies have been held at drug, alcohol, and behavior rehabilitation centers, corporate team building events, athletic cross training, At-Risk Youth programs, schools, and music festivals.
School of the Peaceful Ninja was also founded in 2011 by Shine Rilling with his two sons. School of the Peaceful Ninja is a holistic youth empowerment school that weaves teachings from many ancient lineages, such as Taoism, martial arts, yoga, Capoeira, and Native American philosophy. Its’ mission is to focus the warrior energy in a masterful, peaceful way and train our youth to be stewards and protectors of their own life, their community, and the planet.
World Re-leaf Project:
A global web of Eco-education Peace Centers that host workshops, craft Peace Sticks along with other natural goods, supports the growth of indigenous cultures and encourages ecosystem conservation. Led by a team of professional healers, the top needs of the community are identified and solved while simultaneously filming the hosted hands-on, educational workshops. During these local, curated events, holistic well-being experts, musicians, artisans of multi-faceted backgrounds are brought in as instructors. The local staff lead eco-adventures, teach about their ecosystem and how to have a symbiotic relationship with nature. Students are enabled to share their newfound knowledge with others and improve their own lives’ as well as their community. Through WorldPeaceTribe.com, sustainably harvested and crafted Peace Sticks, jewelry and other eco-products are sold and the workshop educational film content is posted. Approximately 20% of World Re-leaf proceeds go to an eco-community fund which is used to grow the eco-village (i.e., purchase seeds, solar-powered equipment, water systems, green buildings, etc.).
The Peace Circle Center for World Peace in Nicaragua was founded in 2011 by Shine Rilling. At the Center, Peace Sticks are hand-crafted by local families and international students. This provides the local people with employment opportunities and incentivizes protection of the ecosystem. The sticks are sustainably harvested from the local forest with machetes and crafted without the use of power tools. Friendship bracelets and jewelry are made with shells collected from the beach. The Center has employed over 70 local people of various ages and has also taught key skills, including math, reading, writing, accounting, business, art, and language. The local children paint the sticks with images of animals and symbols of peace with the intention to create a culture of world peace. The Center offers a free food program, free clothing program, and helps with financial support and implementation of medical supplies and treatment. Furthermore, the Center hosts Peace Sticks, Trainings and retreats, where international students and the local people learn and play together. This is the first model of a Peace Center for the World Releaf Project.
Shining Lion Music is a group of musicians headed by Shine Rilling, that record and perform original reggae, hip hop, tribal music. Weaving world rhythms, languages, wisdom, and prayers for the next seven generations, this music inspires environmental sustainability, natural stewardship, community, and overall well-being. One goal of the world tour is to record music with local people, share their stories and bring awareness to environmental and social challenges and educate how the global community can help.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I knew from a young age that I loved animals and was here to help bridge humanity back to nature, Yet it was not until much later in my life while hiking with my brother and Dog in the Berkley forests that we picked up sticks and began to throw them between each other. During this play, we realized that we entered into a powerful, transformative flow state of the present, peak-performance consciousness, and synergistic connection. This moment changed my life in the hugest way, and I feel I have been divinely guided by synchronicity and flow the whole way through.
