Check out Cash-Cooper’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cash-Cooper.

Cash-Cooper, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Before I was in Lovely Lincoln Heights, I was in China exhibiting, teaching art history, and playing Heroes of the Storm. Prior to that, I was living at my folks in the Tri-State, painting at night in a rented studio filled with adopted turtles. Leading up to that, I was teaching animation in Singapore, also among reptiles.

In unconscious anticipation of all this, I was a simple student who frequented museums, studied kendo, and played in a rock band. My story is one of gratitude for my talent and the support of loved ones which inspires me to explore many different modes of living in the floating world.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I make XL paintings that you can use for interdimensional time travel. I make them usually with acryla-gouache and ink, on high-quality paper. Why? Because its fun and practice makes perfect. 🙂

The inspiration for my work is the ancient covenant between Africans and nature that birthed civilization. I believe that the “message” is what emerges from the interaction between viewer and painting. That’s its own vibe, unique to every individual who sees the work. I could never intuit what message they may receive, but I’m grateful that is something, like a meal, that they can enjoy on their own.

You should know that the work was made by a son of Manhattan and Jersey City.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
When it comes to the piece, as long as it’s made and in a place where people can fuck with it or not, then it’s fulfilling a purpose. I also am an advocate for holistic education, so life-long learning, exercise, and spiritual practice is important to me.

In regards to moving in a capitalist society, there is an undeniable benefit to making an enterprise of your work, by using arts sites to find grants and calls, selling your work directly, and working gigs that build your personal and financial capital.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My Instagram is @cashcooperart, and my website is cash-cooper.com.

Look for new Cash-Cooper tees for the summer. 🙂
